COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Status uncertain.
At 9% ABV it sits nicely beside our Orkney Porter, also 9%, and is the first time weíve brewed a barley wine. A lovely deep amber in colour, we loaded it full of American hops - and then we put some more in! All in the interest of balance, it also contains a small mountain of Maris Otter pale malt.

Chelmsford Beer Festival. Pretty much a clear gold - amber beer. Little pale cream coloured head. Palate is smooth and semi dry. Super mild carbonation. Lactose sweet malt with a nice nutty caramel. Floral dried fruits, Touch of licorice. The milky sweetness holds this sweetish and clean barley wine together.

UPDATED: JUN 14, 2013 Cask at CP&K, Pimlico. It pours deep amber with a minimal white head. The nose is toast, fruit cake, raisin, plum, light booze, earth, honey and toffee. The taste is toffee, caramel, fruit cake, oily, toast, honey, earth and toast with a dry, boozy finish. Full body, soft carbonation and oily mouth-feel. Pretty tasty, but a touch cloying.

2014-07-10. Crisp dark orange body near headless. 3+ Aroma is sweetly alcoholic and fruity. Flavour is similar, sweet malty core, pleasant fruit character, touch or what i want to call juniper probably isnít. Smooth average plus to bodied palate, little carbonation. 3+ Nice, touch too alcoholic, some carbonation might help cut that a touch. Cask at Scottish Real Ale Festival

[6504-20140710] Cask. Toasted peaty grains aroma. Clear, orange amber body with a quick bubbly head. Bitter boozy orange roughage grains flavour with a quick biting finish. Medium-full body is quite boozy. Interesting start to the festival but not a bad choice. (7/3/7/3/13) 3.3

Cask at The Scottish Real Ale Festival 2014. Pours clear orange amber, no head. Aromas of jam and marmalade, really jammy! Light spice there too. Taste is more of the same, light booze note. Slightly sticky, but Iíll put that down to the gravity pour, might be a bit zingier from hand-pump or bottle (please bottle this Highland!)

Poured medium amber with a small off white head. Aroma of honey, berries and some malt. Medium to full body, the flavour is moderately sweet with a lingering alcohol hit in the finish.

On cask @ the Bow Bar, Edinburgh. Pours quite a cloudy medium brown colour with a good head. The nose has cake mixture, sweet spices such as cinnamon and a raisin note towards the end. The taste has more of the cake thing, in fact itís like a clootie dumpling with dried fruits, cinnamon again, probably nutmeg or cloves too. The palate has been nailed - full bodied, with a big creamy texture in the middle section and a long elegant finish, balanced the whole way through. Overall, this has huge power but restraint like a fine French wine (if that isnít a ridiculous comparison), the best barley wine Iíve had from Scotland.
