Chelmsford Beer Festival. Pretty much a clear gold - amber beer. Little pale cream coloured head. Palate is smooth and semi dry. Super mild carbonation. Lactose sweet malt with a nice nutty caramel. Floral dried fruits, Touch of licorice. The milky sweetness holds this sweetish and clean barley wine together.

UPDATED: JUN 14, 2013 Cask at CP&K, Pimlico. It pours deep amber with a minimal white head. The nose is toast, fruit cake, raisin, plum, light booze, earth, honey and toffee. The taste is toffee, caramel, fruit cake, oily, toast, honey, earth and toast with a dry, boozy finish. Full body, soft carbonation and oily mouth-feel. Pretty tasty, but a touch cloying.

Cask @ Paisley Beer Festival 2010. Clear golden colour, white bubbles. Aroma is sugar, syrup , fruits and sweet malts. Flavour is sweet fruity, orange, sweet malts, touch of hops. Slightly sweet finish. Little alcohol burn. Very balanced. Good stuff.

On cask at The Bow Bar. Pours a dark golden colour with a decent white head. Barley wine aroma of caramel, candy sugar, alcohol and wood. Alcohol is fairly present with flavours of caramel, toffee, alcohol and grassy hops. Moderate carbonation and an oily mouth-feel.

Cask @ The Hanging Bat. Orange amber colour, decent head. Big barley aroma. Very sweet rice barley alcohol flavour. Sweet aftertaste. Better than I expected.

On cask @ the Bow Bar, Edinburgh. Pours quite a cloudy medium brown colour with a good head. The nose has cake mixture, sweet spices such as cinnamon and a raisin note towards the end. The taste has more of the cake thing, in fact it’s like a clootie dumpling with dried fruits, cinnamon again, probably nutmeg or cloves too. The palate has been nailed - full bodied, with a big creamy texture in the middle section and a long elegant finish, balanced the whole way through. Overall, this has huge power but restraint like a fine French wine (if that isn’t a ridiculous comparison), the best barley wine I’ve had from Scotland.

Cask at bat. Amber woth little white head. Thick resinous aroma, molasses, caramel, little alcohol, sherry. Taste is very rich, sherry fruits, resinius, caramel. Flat and warm, oily. Very nice bit I might prefer from a bottle.

[cask at Bacchus, Newcastle] Clear bronze-coloured pour, with a good head. Sweet, honey nose, plenty of tacky malt and almond on the nose. Flavours are big and strong, no question. Big marzipan sweetness, honey, figs and then warming alcohol. Very fruity after the sweetness resides. Finish is very long. Nice stuff
