Bottle @ Bruce’s Housewarming Tasting. Light amber color with no head. The nose is apricot and orange marmalade. Light bell pepper, a bit boozy. The taste is fruity marmalade, a bit hot, dusty light hops. Jammy malts. Medium body, smooth. Actually quite flavorful.

Bottle. Golden, small to average and fully diminishing head. Moderate, malty and sweetish aroma, fruitiness - some honey and light toffee, light grassy - herbal hoppyness. Body is moderate and malty and sweetish with some fruitiness - light honey, light caramel, light grassy hoppyness. Finish is average and malty and sweetish, some fruitiness with honey, some grassy - herbal hoppyness, light alcohol. Fruity and sweetish strong ale with decent bitterness - too sweet for my taste.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: AUG 5, 2012 Cask at the Euston Tap, London. Pours clear gold with a tight, white foam head. Ripe fruit nose. Medium to big sweet flavor, melon, other ripe fruits, faint pine, wet bread, some semi-darkened sugars. Actually a pretty nice quaffer. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet, fairly sticky finish with lots of ripe fruits, jammy berries, some dates. Quite sweet with lots of ripe, semi-dark fruits, but not at all cloying. Lightly dry on the end, which provides some escape from the sugars. Nice beer. (3.7)
Bottle at Bruce’s Housewarming Party Tasting, London. Very solid all around. Looks great. Some light citrus jam carries the beer - think marmalade. Not overly sweet. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Very mild warmth in the end, more jammy citrus character. Very nice beer. (3.7)

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle BBE FEB 13. Sweet malt, fruit, English yeast in the nose, faint wood, hops late. Pours a pale, dull orange with a large and rocky tan head. Taste only lightly sweet and that’s followed by a nice, strong bitterness. Caramel is strong but accented sharply by fruit, spicy mid-body resolves into a beautiful but short bready finish. Has some sharp crystal edges but does handle the alcohol well, fruit gains steam and becomes a little sickening. Creamy medium body, like this one.

An unbelievably drinkable stronger than average beer that just slips down. Good all year but hard to get hold of. Get it when you can.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bourbon cream nose, little in the way of a head a’top a stern well varnished brown mahogany body. Stickily cheap fudge initial taste, leaving enough width for your fillings to get filled with a malt storm that brings the ABV to the forefront cautiously. Slight TCP burn on the finish keeps the glass on the table long enough to appreciate the effort of what is easily their flagship brew in my book. (Cask, Highland Taps Takeover, Cloisters)

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tasted this at the Paisley Beer Festival in May 2008. Cask, gravity dispense. Clear copper red in colour with a thin white head. Fresh watermelon in the short aroma. Thin mouthfeel and poor lacing. Mixed malts give a thick chewy maltloaf base with syrupy raisins, sultanas, cherries and then drier redcurrants. Floral hop resins impart a strong spicy kick to the lively aftertaste. Sweet malt returns in the robust malty finish with glycerine fruit and booming alcohol notes warming in the throat. A superb Strong Ale and well recommended.
