Cask, Bodega, Newcastle. Black looks with a wee tan head . Nose had notes of choc, roast and hop . Flavour was on similar lines and had some robust dark malts leading to some hop bitterness towards the finish. Hard to fault. Tasty stuff.

Cask at Moorings, Aberdeen. It pours very dark brown, with a medium beige head. The nose is rather soft, roasted malt, toast, charcoal, liquorice and dark chocolate. The taste is roasted malt, coffee, light ash, tar, soft dark fruit, faint liquorice, dark chocolate, earth and some astringency, with a dry, toasty finish. Medium body, soft carbonation and mouth-feel. Well-balanced, flavoursome and rather drinkable.

Cask. Dark ruby/brown. Very roasty, lots of toffee, butterscotch. A little too roasty for me. Not overly complex.

Prominent roasted notes with a bit bitterness lingering. Reasonably rich (a problem with UK stouts, in my view, is getting a decent palate) but thin enough all the same. Burnt notes threaten to overtake my later sips as it warms. (cask at Scottish Real Ale Festival, Edinburgh, June 2012)
