COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular. Previously brewed at 5.0%.

Appearance: brown to red in the glass.
Nose: generously malty with subtle hop notes and hints of fruity fermentation esters.
Palate: nutty crystal malt to the fore, with a hint of chocolate malt roastiness, leading into a satisfyingly balanced malt hop middle. The end is nutty, with a lingering hop note.
Summary: a rewarding world class premium ale made with maris otter pale ale malt & dash of chocolate malt, with two classic english hops for bitterness and aroma. St magnus is a beer with a fabulous malt hop balance. If it’s well vented the hops just win through in the flavour profile.

Tasted this at the Paisley Beer Festival in April 2007. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear copper red in colour with a thin white head. Sweet aroma of glycerine fruit long in the nose. Resiny mouthfeel and poor lacing. Pale malt base gives a maltloaf base with a strong tart redcurrant fruit flavour. Very slight floral note to the short dusty aftertaste which vanishes quickly and is replaced by sweetness. Malt returns in the robust warming finish with fruit jellies, barley sugar and then dry oak cask notes. An excellent Scottish ESB and one to search out for.

Cask at The Bree Louise, London. Pours clear gold with a few bubbles for the head. Tropical fruit nose, some citrus, faint pine. Great flavor, with pineapple, melon, mild overall bitterness, some lightly toasted bread and sugar. Light to medium bodied with soft carbonation. Mild sticky finish, some watermelon, faint grapefruit, pineapple, and lots of mango. A very nice beer. Pleasant surprise at The Bree Louise!

light amber colour. definitely smells malty. lots of caramel. slightly fizzy w/ a caramel malt flavour nice enough. (uses the most malt and most hops of all Orkney beers but sell the least)

Cask (gravity dispense) at Pigs Ear Beer Festival, day 4 on 2 December 2010. Clear amber/copper colour. Aroma is a mix of dusty malt and tangy hop. Same on the palate. Drinkable stuff if not a shining light.
