Commercial Description:
Our Scotch-style ale, named from Norse mythology, combines the heritage and tartan of our brew team. The roasted barley and chocolate malt lend a bold flavor to this delicious dark beer. Its increased hop level is a modest departure from a true Scotch-style ale. We hope you agree this is a beer worthy of the name Tasgall, "Cauldron of the Gods."

Poured a dark ruby-brown color with a light tan head. Aroma is a nice blend of malt, toffee, and some peat. Palate isn’t thick or overbearing. Taste is sweet without being cloying or feeling underattenuated. Finish has a subtle hop and roasted malt finish that is a nice touch. Very well done.

Malt forward aroma has plenty of toffee and caramel and some nutty marzipan. Darkest brown body is almost opaque. Low tan head recedes to ring with very sparse, sudsy lace. Chocolate, caramel and toffee flavours blend nicely. Hop character is rather subdued. Some hints of alcohol. Mild warming. Dry medium body with moderate carbonation. Bottle sampled with CapFlu and Oakes.

On tap at Barleys, Asheville, July 2006. Very deep red colour. Rich and full and a little bit viscous. Lots of deep malt and toffee in the flavour. Sweetish, but with some hops fighting through, but not with, the malt. Quite smooth and easy drinking for its strength. Not one of my favourite styles but I’d drink this one again.

Appearance: Dark brown. Head: Medium tan quickly gone. Aroma: Sweet malt, citrus, caramel, spice. Flavor: sweet, hop bite, caramel, winey, raisins/grapes, fruit. Palate: full carbonated. Finish: warm, well balanced alcohol. This was an excellent beer. I would highly recommend it. Great depth and balance.

Deep ruby color with a thick foamy biege head. Dried fruit and roast grain nose. Sweet beer with some molasses, brown sugar, chocolate and roasted grain. Some grassy hops to add balance. This is a malt dominated beer. I don’t prefer Scotch ales, but this is better than most.

Bottle shared by nolankowal. Aroma of brown sugar and a little maltiness. Dark brown with a thin head. Pretty tasty and very malty with a little hoppy bitterness to it.

Bottle, split with NachlamSie while listening to Explosions in the Sky. Very nice aromas of rich caramel, smoke, and a bit of earthiness and chocolate. The flavor is caramel, sweet rich malts, grain, smokiness, and a touch of dark fruit.
