| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Aug 31, 2006 A very dark brown Scotch Ale, with a light tan head. Rich and creamy - great, full mouthfeel, with a rich, bitter coffee/chocolate finish. Not too sweet at all. It is very nutty and full-bodied. Very good. notalush (2658), Denver, Colorado, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 26, 2006 650ml bottle. My first Scotch Ale. Pours dark red with a thin tan head. Chocolate maltiness, toffee, and a bit of scotch. Somewhat fruity taste, mostly chocolate malt. Bitter bready finish. Not that different from strong stouts. lamas (716), Adams Morgan, Washington DC, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 22, 2006 22 oz. bottle courtesy of ross. Pours a deep brown with a thin tan head. Plenty of dark malts in the aroma along with some vanilla extract, chocolate and a sour nuttiness. Harshly carbonated upfront, yet still goes down smooth. Lots of sweet, chocolatey malts to start. Caramel, plums, raisins and smokiness in the middle. A nicely bitter hoppy finish with a mix of biscuits and dark coffee. Delicious. hotstuff (3175), Indiana, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 21, 2006 Bottle. Small tan fizzy head that mostly diminished, sparse lacing, mostly opaque with a little light coming through to see that there was some carbonation, and a dark brown hue with a little orange peeking through. Malty, chocolate and a whiff of scotch. Nicely done. Sweet, malty, chcolate, vinuous but not overly done. Nice flavor. Mouthfeel was tingly. A nicely made scotch ale and worth seeking out if one enjoys this style. Hangover (768), Atlanta, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 16, 2006 Very dark brown pour with a nice brown/tan head. Sweet malty aroma with some chocolate, bourbon and dried fruit. Active carbonation but smooth tasting. Very sweet initially. A little bit of alcohol creeps into the middle. Lots going on in the finish which is moderately bitter and sticky. Chocolate, plum, raisin just a lot of fruit maybe some citrus hops... some smoke and peat. Nice! | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 26, 2006 Bottle, from trade with ross. Good nose, sweet. Caramel. milk, nutty, hint of scotch & smoke. Little of the ABV shows itself. Hazy orangy brown color, small head (I poured kind of slow) that faded to a ring. Ok lace. Sweet bitter flavor, like aroma, but a fruitiness comes out I didn’t find in the aroma. Raisin, plum. kicks in. Has a bite about it. Thick body, creamy oily mouthfeel, sweet bitter finish. Very tasty. Truly a winner from Highland. Thanks ross! hopscotch (5482), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 23, 2006 Bottle... Clear, dark, deep ruby ale with a small, frothy, khaki head. Good retention. Malty, earthy aroma with notes of caramel and light smoke. The well-balanced flavor is very grainy with plenty of caramel, medium sherry and spent mash. Medium bitterness... enough hops to knock down the sweetness without totally eclipsing the rich, malty character. Full-bodied and sticky with marginal carbonation. Lengthy, malty, then bitter finish. Probably too well-bittered to be true to style, but delicious. Reminds me of Three Floyds Robert the Bruce Scottish Ale. Thanks go out to CaptainCougar for sending the bottle!
