This robust porter has a full body with some hints of chocolate from the chocolate malt and midnight wheat. The mild noble hop aroma showcases the roasty flavors and subtle fruit and spice notes of the artisan-roasted Fair Trade/Organic coffee of Black Mountain, NCís Dynamite Roasting Co.

Aroma: Mellow, yet pervasive coffee profile in the nose, a little fudge, slight earth. Appearance: Dark garnet black pour with a foamy mocha head that settles into a skin. Flavor: Coffee up front, and mostly prevalent throughout; some hints of chocolate and an earthy aftertaste. Coffee shows off a little blueberry and cream as it warms. Palate: Medium body, sticky texture, soft carbonation, astringent finish. Overall: Standout coffee flavor here, but I would personally like a bit more porter character.

Dark opaque brownish black pour. Small mocha head. Aroma is all coffee with heavy chicory. The porter is mostly coffee, especially espresso with roasted bark. Finish is smooth, slightly bitter and lasting. Quite an easy drinking porter, may have it for breakfast tomorrow. Quaff Score ( drinkability with hearty enjoyment ) 8 / 10

Bottle->tumbler. Deep brown with small offwhite head. Great coffee and malt aroma; taste is coffee with roasted and chocolate malt. Bittersweet coffee aftertaste is quite pleasant. Very good.

12 oz. bottle from SoHo Organic Market, Elizabeth City, NC. Dark brown pour with a creamy khaki head. Aroma of strong coffee, rich dark chocolate, and dark roasted malts. Bitter coffee is most certainly noted in the flavor but is not overwhelming or unpleasant. It is more reminscent of cold coffee than anything. A good coffee porter.

Pours a dark dark with a creamy tan head and aroma of coffee. Taste is great, heavy coffee with roasted malt and chocolate flavors and a slight bitter finish. Drinkable, nice brew, can taste the coffee throughout.

Bottle. Light coffee aroma with roasted malt and chocolate. Thick, roasted coffee taste with some chocolate in the background. Pretty solid brew. Always been a fan of Highland.

Poured into a pint glass. Big thanks to SteveFinny for this. 4.0 A: Black color. Two fingers of light brown, creamy/frothy head. Retention is good overall and very good given the coffee involved. A short ring of lacing is left. 3.5 S: Smell of coffee dominates, though I will admit that itís reminiscent of stale coffee. Plenty of roast, moderate sweetness, and hints of molasses. Still, decent. 3.5 T: Coffee rules the taste as well. Solid malty base. Chocolate shows up for the first time along with the molasses. Good. 3.5 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Reasonably creamy and smooth. 3.5 D: Solid throughout. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 07-27-2012 18:35:01

Bottle from Total Wine in Stuart. Pours a very dark brown with a tan head, leaving very little lace. Aroma has coffee .... and coffee. Wow, like cold coffee to the nose, with some caramel underneath. Coffee fan, so that was terrific. Taste is of coffee, and sweet caramel, and some chocolate. Fairly thin Light to medium bodied. First half glass was cellar temperature and the refrigerator temp was far superior. Finishes coffee bitter with some sweetness, and perhaps a bit short. Enjoyably tasty, very coffee porter, just somewhat thin. Rating - due to the 5 compartments - probably higher than where this should be. Aroma WAS very nice. Taste WAS thin, but tasty enough. Finished nicely bittersweet. Add some depth and to a coffee-enjoyer, this would be easily 4+ total. Very nice smell and good flavors.

Bottle. Pours black with a medium-sized, persistent tan head that leaves some good lacing. Aroma is coffee, a touch of chocolate, maybe even vanilla, some roasted malt. Flavor is dominated by the coffee; it tends to blot out most of the other flavors. I get some roasted malt, some chocolate. Palate is too thin, and it needs some more malt to stand up to the chocolate. Iím also rather prejudiced against coffee porters; they always seem to taste like coffee dregs, no matter how good the purported quality of the coffee. I think Iíll keep my coffee and my beer -- probably my two favorite beverages -- in separate corners.
