COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This robust porter has a full body with some hints of chocolate from the chocolate malt and midnight wheat. The mild noble hop aroma showcases the roasty flavors and subtle fruit and spice notes of the artisan-roasted Fair Trade/Organic coffee of Black Mountain, NCís Dynamite Roasting Co.

12 oz. bottle. The aroma is coffee, bitter chocolate, and black bread. The flavor is sweet, malty, and mildly bitter. The palate is medium, chalky, and smooth. Overall, this is a light, well balanced, and flavorful beer.

Deep brown almost black color with nice tan lacing. Very roasted and nutty nose. The palate also has a pretty intense coffee and dark roasted characteristic. Hinges on being a little over the top. Definitely a good 12 oz beer to share. Drink in cool/cold weather.

Bottle from Total Wine in Stuart. Pours a very dark brown with a tan head, leaving very little lace. Aroma has coffee .... and coffee. Wow, like cold coffee to the nose, with some caramel underneath. Coffee fan, so that was terrific. Taste is of coffee, and sweet caramel, and some chocolate. Fairly thin Light to medium bodied. First half glass was cellar temperature and the refrigerator temp was far superior. Finishes coffee bitter with some sweetness, and perhaps a bit short. Enjoyably tasty, very coffee porter, just somewhat thin. Rating - due to the 5 compartments - probably higher than where this should be. Aroma WAS very nice. Taste WAS thin, but tasty enough. Finished nicely bittersweet. Add some depth and to a coffee-enjoyer, this would be easily 4+ total. Very nice smell and good flavors.

Originally reviewed: 12/30/11. One of my more anticipated new NC beers to try, so I was excited to see this one on tap at City Bev in town. A huge rocky tan head capped this mother off. The nose was strong with roasted coffee and chocolate powder. I really am digging the freshly ground aroma. Nice strong coffee presence. The body is moderate-to-full, yet still drinkable. The alcohol level must be low, because this one is disappearing quickly. Big coffee notes, chocolate, slight nutty presence melded within. Dang. This one delivered. My new favorite Highland offering. Now to seek out some bottles...

On tap at the Taco Mac in Peachtree City. A strong peat malt in a robust porter. Tasted similar to a Guinness, but not quite as smooth.

Strong espresso aromas. Nice roasty coffee flavors. Very very good coffee porter from Highland.

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Pours jet black with a one finger tan head. Pretty good lacing. The smell is just wonderful. Coffee and dark chocolate dominate with some caramel. Smells like a cappuccino! The taste starts off great but doesnít finish well. There is a heavy coffee and caramel flavor along with chocolate, much like the smell. However soon after there is a strong bitterness that takes hold. Iím guessing it is from the coffee but it just seems to disrupt the flow of things. This is a good beer overall but I feel the coffee bitterness could be toned down just a bit. I would drink it again, though.

Highland strikes with a smooth, creamy, and coffee-laced treat. Didnít hit all notes I would like, but a good showing. Serving: 12oz bottle

Pours a jet black with fluffy tan brown head. Nose and taste is all coffee in the front and a bit of a tart finish. Not bad at all. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
