Bottle from Bruisin Ales. Pours black with a thin khaki head that doesnít leave any lacing. Nice coffee aroma. They did a good job with the roasting. The coffee complements the porter base nicely. Clean finish. Very tasty. I wish I had another bottle of this.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle courtesy of durhambeer!
Pours basically black with a small but well retained head that leaves small bits of lacing on the glass.
The beer has a nice roasty and fruity smell. The coffee is vibrant and pungent and not unlike walking into my dearest Zanzibarís Coffee house here in town while the roaster is doing her thing.
The flavor is roasty and bitter with a little bit of creamy sweetness. The beer isnít overly sweet but does have a little bit of ashy-ness.
The palate is a little bit think but the low carbonation serves the flavor perfectly.

Beer #14 Asheville trip. Had this on tap at Jack of the Wood. Pity that we didnít have time to go by Highland itself, but time is always limited, and at least I got to try a really nice one. Pours black, nice head. Aroma of espresso and chocolate. Flavor matches. A bit of vague fruity character in the background. Came across bigger than it really was, with a touch of warming alcohol on the finish. Very nicely done, my favorite brew sampled at Jack of the Wood.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours dark brown with a medium tan head. Aroma has fresh mild coffee and roastiness. Flavor has nice fresh roasty coffee...a light and faint spiciness that almost comes off as hot pepper. Mouthfeel is light and silky with a roasty/bitter coffee finish...just a hint of a burn...id swear there was hot pepper in this. Fairly one dimensional but tasty.

Bottle courtesy of ygtbsm94. Earthy-peaty-nutty coffee and some light chocolate aroma. Black brown with a large brown head, nice creamy lacing. Roasty coffee, earthy peat, light ash and slightly acidic flavor. Body on the light side of medium, moderate carbonation. Very nice.

ABC PCB growler. Gorgeous brown pour with a foamy, tan head that lasts forever. Big roasty aroma with a hint of coffee. Nice flavor that hints at coffee but also reminds me of roasted peanuts. Nice.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Serving: 12 oz. bottle from Chips Wine & Beer. It pours a black color with a small but lasting tan head. The nose has a ton of fresh ground coffee. The flavor is solid but not overbearing with a roasted bitterness and lots of fresh, black coffee flavor. Once the best uses of coffee in a beer that Iíve had. Medium to full bodied but the roastiness ends up dry on the back end making it very drinkable. Great brew.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
12oz bottle from JCB, thanks Jason! Pours a black body with a finger-width, creamy, dark brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is slightly stale, cheaper smelling coffee with some sourness. A good amount of milky dark chocolate malts with a moderate sweetness as well as a light roast, vanilla, and touch of bitterness. There is a bit of a spice to this that comes out more as it warms. Flavor is better. The coffee is big and does taste a bit cheap, but its not as stale as the aroma. A light herbal hopping in the middle blends nicely with the coffee. Solid milky dark chocolate malt backing offering a medium-light sweetness with some vanilla as well. Coffee picks up towards the end with a bit of a creme as this finishes with a light-medium, roasty, herbal, coffee bitterness that dries with just enough of a chocolate sweetness before leaving a lengthy aftertaste with a touch of ash coming out. Medium, smooth body with a moderate carbonation. Overall, not a bad coffee porter. The coffee isnít my favorite variety, but its well balanced with a nice chocolate malt sweetness and light hopping. Finishes well and remains easy drinking throughout.
