3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 pack purchased from Green Life Chattanooga. This is basically black with a long lasting tan head. Aroma has true, tasty coffee with hints at dark chocolate. I’m not sure why this is rated so low. It’s an above average coffee beer, for sure. It may not have the completeness of something like Pisgah Valdez or Bells Java Stout, but the genuine coffee flavor is considerable. Malts are clean and balance things out nicely.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bought a 12-pack of this and almost forgot to rate it. Pours nearly black, just brown around the edges. Pours with a small head, but otherwise mostly flat. Nose is roasty coffee and cocoa nibs. Yum. Taste is a bit thin, as is the palate. Extra love for the cheap price tag.

12oz bottle poured into snifter. Wow! Amazing coffee aroma. Can’t remember the last beer I had that was overwhelmed with this much coffee aroma. Flavor is bitter with hints of dark chocolate and coffee bean. A real treat and surprise.

On tap at Cypress Street. Nicely roasty coffee aroma. Smooth and easy to drink porter with a touch of character but not overpowering in any one dimension. Soft sweetness. Caramel and chocolate flavors. A little grassy bitter on the back end.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Sample at Knoxville Brewers’ Jam. Pours dark brown with beige head. the aroma is Latin American coffee, ash, some raisin. The flavor is rich with coffee, but the coffee seems to lack freshness. There is also some raisin and ash and a bit of resiny hops.

Sampled at the brewery. It poured a clear brown color with a tan head. The aroma was of moderately roasted coffee and spices. The taste was medium to heavy roasted dark coffee with some bittersweetness and a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration.
