3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Bruisin Ales. Pours black with a thin khaki head that doesnít leave any lacing. Nice coffee aroma. They did a good job with the roasting. The coffee complements the porter base nicely. Clean finish. Very tasty. I wish I had another bottle of this.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark beer with almost no head. Nose of green coffee beans and a little play doh. Sweet caramel flavor with some wet toast, roast grains and burnt sweetened coffee. Some celery and green stuff in the finish. The coffee flavor is pretty subtle.

6 Jan 2015, bottle. Black. Nose is really big, bitter, dark espresso. Med body and moderately fizzy. Tastes like dark chocolate with hints of chili pepper. Faintly acidic. Nice enough.

Bottle, thanks ethan for sharing. Deep brown with a chocolate milk like sudsy head with plentiful lace against my mini imperial glass courtesy of Durham Central Park. Nose is cocoa, light coffee, light fruit. Nice, not overwhelming but nice. Roasty, dark chocolate, light espresso. very easy drinking, light bitterness in the finish. Solid and like everything Highland makes, English style so donít go judging this against Hill Farmstead Everett or anything amazing like that.

Great black pour with fading tan head. Nice roasty clean fresh coffee aroma, some vanilla. Flavor has more of the roast grounds bitterness and not as much balance. Meh. One of the better coffee beers out there, but Iím not a fan of coffee.

Bottle courtesy of durhambeer!
Pours basically black with a small but well retained head that leaves small bits of lacing on the glass.
The beer has a nice roasty and fruity smell. The coffee is vibrant and pungent and not unlike walking into my dearest Zanzibarís Coffee house here in town while the roaster is doing her thing.
The flavor is roasty and bitter with a little bit of creamy sweetness. The beer isnít overly sweet but does have a little bit of ashy-ness.
The palate is a little bit think but the low carbonation serves the flavor perfectly.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Samís, Durham. Listen closely and you can hear Brian Johnson. Was pleased by how solid this one was, and thatís more or less what I expected from Highland - they usually do the chocolate malt and coffee interface pretty well. This one could have been more full bodied, I suppose, but it had a bracing, lively roasted quality to it that recalled fresh Bells Java.

@ Party Town / Florence KY --- Opaque brown-black with a light head cover, thin streaks of lace. Aroma is healthy earth, malt, and coffee. Taste matches the aroma: roasted malt, dark, moist earth, coffee, and dark toast are all present on a base of mild bittering. All moves smoothly to a lingering finish in which no additiopnal bittering is necessary. Very palatable, Iím having it tonight in front of TV and a fire with Triscuits and Havarti cheese. Itís a good night.
