COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This robust porter has a full body with some hints of chocolate from the chocolate malt and midnight wheat. The mild noble hop aroma showcases the roasty flavors and subtle fruit and spice notes of the artisan-roasted Fair Trade/Organic coffee of Black Mountain, NC’s Dynamite Roasting Co.

Bottle. Dark, dark brown, with little to no head. The aroma is awesome ... full of all kinds of roasty chocolate and coffee. This drinks like it should, too, for a coffee porter ... big, chewy notes of rich, nutty java. Delicious! (#4824, 11/18/2012)

A great balance on the coffee flavor. It sits nicely on the palate without dominating the flavor.

Pours an opaque black with one finger tan head with mild to moderate lacing. Roasted malt and rich coffee. Mildly bitter but overall very smooth with medium body and moderate carbonation. Medium smooth coffee finish. Hint of herbal hops. Excellent.

Beer #14 Asheville trip. Had this on tap at Jack of the Wood. Pity that we didn’t have time to go by Highland itself, but time is always limited, and at least I got to try a really nice one. Pours black, nice head. Aroma of espresso and chocolate. Flavor matches. A bit of vague fruity character in the background. Came across bigger than it really was, with a touch of warming alcohol on the finish. Very nicely done, my favorite brew sampled at Jack of the Wood.

Very delicious. But I happen to be a coffee lover and that is the flavor that comes through. Pretty big mouthfeel (have gotten used to the SC lighter bodied porter)- drinks more like a stout. Totally smooth with good bitterness added from the coffer profile- not so much the hops- although they are there in the background. From the Briess website: "Midnight Wheat Malt will contribute the same color characteristics as Black Malt but without the bitter, astringent, dry flavors or aftertaste". Leaning to heavily on the coffee for some palates, but works for me. Could be my favorite from Highland Brewing.

Coffee and hint of chocolate malt aroma. Smooth, no carbonation. Nicely balanced and the coffee flavor is perfect.

Bottle from Bruisin Ales. Pours black with a thin khaki head that doesn’t leave any lacing. Nice coffee aroma. They did a good job with the roasting. The coffee complements the porter base nicely. Clean finish. Very tasty. I wish I had another bottle of this.

12 ounce bottle - $1.69 at Charlie’s Beer and Wine in Marietta, Georgia.

Appearance: Pours what appears to be an essentially black body with a full, thick finger of medium-tan-hued foam.

Smell: Roasty, coffee-accented nose with a touch of bitter chocolate and increasingly fainter, lighter notes of caramel, pale malts, spicy hops, and fruit.

Taste: Roasty coffee and bitterish chocolate mingled with the base pale malts. Some thin traces of caramel, maybe even a fat drop of molasses in there as well. Very low fruitiness. Modestly spicy hops aided a bit by the roast, the carbonation, and wheat. Roasty finish with some of that dark chocolate lingering into the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation, though there’s an added skosh of crispness on the tail end of the swallow.

Overall: A solid, enjoyable coffee-infused porter.
