Aroma: 7/10. Very nice sweet malty aroma, hints of toasted marshmallow, vanilla. No hint of smoke really yet. Appearance: 4/5. Pours a dark cola black with a very thin white head that fades pretty fast, mild to moderate lacing. Taste: 8/10. Like a roasted and slightly burned marshmallow. Vanilla, alcohol, just enough smoke to back up that pleasant toasted flavor. It’s not intensely sweet, but the finish is very nice. Palate: 3/5. Watery and thin. I *really* wanted this beer to just be more beer and a little less water. I think that alone would bump the score on Taste up another point. However, it’s definitely a very sessionable beer, so it holds up well to the porter style. Overall: 16/20. I praise this one through faint damnations. The toasted-lightly-burnt marshmallow flavor that the smoking of the malts gives this beer is just fabulous, and overall I drink this beer and think of campfires and nights under the stars, and deliberately burning my marshmallows as a kid. The point scoring is fair, but there’s a special place for this one in my heart.

Near black pour with a tan head that leaves a little lace. Light roasted notes and light smoke on the nose. Everything here is fairly subdued. There’s a little chocolate and coffee as well. Moderate amounts of smoke on the palate with with an underlying chocolate flavour. Finishes a little quick and just dies out rather than fading. Decent enough.

2014-08-01. Black body small beige head. 3+ Aroma has earthy vegetal smoke character over muted sweet dark malt. Lingering light smoke. Flavour is odd, mild smoke is pervasive. Average bodied palate, moderate carbonation. Did not care for it. Bottle from the LCBO, Toronto

Light salty meaty peated smoke smell and some dark malt smell. Jet black with a little amber red bottom. Medium bodied. Some sips are a malty dark beer with a light but noticale little smokeyness and some sips are like drinking a light smoky cola and there is a tad little sourness also.

Bottle, shared with Robbie. Dark reddish brown, nice smoky aroma, a little meaty, a little campfire, with underlying dark malts. The smoke is much more subdued on the palate, with simple roast taking over. Noticeably thin.

Dark brown, ample fizzy and fizzling rocky head. Aroma is smoke, leather, toast. Similar taste once you sip it...really quite smoky. Quite a bit of sweetness too that is unusual. Fruits and berries on the finish, before the smoke blows in. Without the smoke, I think this would be a really strange beer. The smoke masks some of that.

It looks a lot worse than it tastes. Has small brown head that dissapears in no time at all. No carbonation at all, pretty flat. That being said, it tastes quite decent. Toasty dark bread and very faint smoke. Almost opaque garnet black with clear highlights. It has low bitterness and sticky smooth finish. Body is not overly heavy as you would expect, but medium thickness.
