3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
[Draught at Mugshot Tavern.] Pours a deep amber-brown with an average size lasting frothy beige head. Aroma of toasted caramel malt, coffee, some chocolate, dark fruit and a hint of hops. No smoke to be found though. Flavour of toasted malt, some coffee, light smoke, a hint of vanilla, light lactic notes and roasty, lightly bitter finish. Average bodied. Pretty good Porter though not smoked enough for me.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
650 mL bottle from LCBO served cool in a tulip glass. Deep brown-black with a fair tan head. Oddly savoury, a little smoke that is both meaty and peaty, touches of dark chocolate and coffee, bright and briney, roasted raisins, oddly different. Medium+ body with soft effervescence. Deep stewed raisins, a little peat smoke, dark roasted malts, different; dry with moderate bitterness and a fairly long stewed dark fruit and light smoke finish. Doesn’t quite work for my palate.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
650 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a dark brown with small, soapy tan head. Aroma is full of honey oddly enough, with light smoke, caramel and a touch of fruitiness. Flavour has, again, a big note of sweet honey with some mellow smokiness, chewy caramel and hints of fruit. Slick mouthfeel. Unusual, but enjoyable enough.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
650 mL bottle. Nice to see these guys continue with new offerings. This one is dark, dark, with a rather small brown head. Nuts, roast and smoke in the nose; the smoke is present but far from dominant. The flavour is interesting. Lovely balance of sweet and bitter (roast). The roast is felt, more than tasted. Once again, the smoke is in the background. The body leans toward robust porter territory. Nice porter.

Lcbo bomber. A very solid porter from an Ontario brewer. The smoke barley shows. Hopefully future batches will be consistent.

Pours rum & cola dark with a small mocha cap that laces nicely. A complex flavour: deep malts, faint smoke & subtle chocolate. They’re doing something special up there in South River. Wish I could get this at my local.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from LCBO. Dark brown with ruby highlights. The nose is pretty nice - cocoa and chocolate with a touch of light smoke and some faint plummy fruitiness. A moderate bitterness on the finish but it has a lovely richness without being overly sweet. A little bit of soft roastiness with a touch of cola-like spiciness. The smoke intensifies a bit as it warms - but it comes across as a savoury sort of character rather than as an overtly smoky note. Pretty nice stuff though.

Near black pour. Very little head. Almost no scent. Very thick. Caramel, molasses and a good bitterness offsetting that sweetness. A bit boozy. Best one I’ve had at the Windsor Craft Beer Festival.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle at the Sudbury beerfest. The pour was a clear, dark brown, with a minimal beige head. Medium smoky aroma, a little bacon, and some touches of soy. The carb was soft, and the mouth feel a touch watery. The finish is very nice, some good smoke, but the roast is lacking for a porter. Some slight nuttiness, with more smoky bacon, and roasted wood. The smoke is there, but the porter aspects i found a bit lacking. Its more of a smoked nut brown, if you ask me.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap @ bent Elbow - a dark opaque brown-black ale with a small tight mocha colored cap. Aroma is pleasant - coffee, fruity, some grassiness and just a subtle hint of smoke. Full bodied for a porter robust roasty fruity character. Flavour follows aroma - rich roasty maltiness with a dark fruity undertone and just a hint of smoke , hops appear mid palate and add light bitterness which carries into the long roasty finish with a touch of sweetness at the end... a tad underdeveloped as all the flavors are discrete - with more time this would be a well rounded robust porter.
