Highlander Scottish Ale has a bright red almond colour with toasted malt, a hint of caramel, and a touch of fruit aromas. It has medium body, with coffee and chocolate flavours, nice hop balance and nutty finish.

500 ml bottle (a couple as “Pale Ale”, a couple as “Scottish Ale”), served cool in a tulip glass. 20AL12.

App.: Clear bright copper, nice light tan head. Aroma: Grainy/mashy sweetness, lightly fruity, mashy/savoury notes, a little earthy, honey, quite malty, virtually no hops, a bit raw. Palate: Medium+ body, soft, full effervescence with a few prickly bubbles. Flav.: Mashy/grainy malts, honey, vague fruitiness, tastes a bit raw/under-fermented, no hops really; sweet with sufficient balancing bitterness and a sweet grainy fruity finish.

Call it what you will, it is still underwhelming.

500 mL bottle. Darkish copper in colour with just a ring of head. Lots of toast in the nose, along with some earthy hops, unsalted peanuts, and a hint of orchard fruit. Caramel sweetish flavour, with the nuts again, as well as some bread. Either the carbonation is a touch high, or the body is a touch light. Not terribly complex, but a nice beer. I’d like to try it on tap - it’s very quaffable.

1 finger head copper amber redish. smewlls of like citrus fruit lightly. taste earlie in is a grassy bitterness but doesnt last long. There is light citrus hops taste and some smooth textured creamy/chopcolate taste. I would like to nsee them focus on the chocolate caramel part on its own as a beer, but with this light refeshing hop side itas a nice try. Medium-heavy bodied and labeld as scothish ale cheer’s!

Bottle from LCBO. Pours dark amber with little head. Caramel and bready malts, with some English hops in the aroma. Full roasty toasty caramelly flavour, with some good hops and a slightly funky bitterness in the finish.

Pours a deep rusty read with 3/4 inch of white bubbly foam with decent retention. Aromas are malt driven, lots of red fruits backed up by caramel. In the mouth there’s much more of a grainy kick to it, and the malts continue to run the show. A little syrupy. Medium bitter, but lingering finish. Touches of melon. If this toned back the sweetness a bit I’d love it, but as it is it’s a bit much. Very pleasant though.

Lubiere (9430) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - APR 9, 2012
A nice copper amber ale with a thin creamy compact mocha head. In aroma, decent butterscotch malt and caramel, woody maple. In mouth, a sweet maple and butterscotch malt with faint grassy hops, oily mouthfeel, medium bodied, a tad too sweet but decent. However, this listing should be re-listed under the new name, Scottish Ale...

Bottle: Poured a clear copper color ale with a nice thick white foamy head with good retention and some very good lacing. Aroma consists of grain and dry cereal notes with light hoppy dry bitter notes. Taste is also a mix between some caramel malt with dry bitter notes and some unrefined cereal notes. Body is about average for style with great carbonation. There some unrefined grain taste that didn’t really do it for but at least they were offset by some of the caramel note and the dry bitter finish.

500 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a clear dark amber colour with modest-sized off-white head. Aroma is lots of sweet caramel and lightly toasty grains with a gentle hoppiness. Flavour has loads of caramel sweetness with again a slight toastiness and a light herbal hoppiness. Average body. Not particularly balanced but drinkable.

500 ml bottle from LCBO. Deep amber pour with a thin head. Lots of sweet caramel along with a bit of soft sweet fruity hoppiness. There’s a touch of sweetness and some light fruit. A lot of toasted caramel malt. Decent pale ale - even if it’s got too much caramel malt.
