Highlander Scottish Ale has a bright red almond colour with toasted malt, a hint of caramel, and a touch of fruit aromas. It has medium body, with coffee and chocolate flavours, nice hop balance and nutty finish.

500ml bottle. Orangy mahogany with a nice off white head. Toasted and somewhat artificially sweet malts, caramel, grainy, some candy and white sugar notes. Mild body and moderate carbonation, somewhat sweet, malty and doughy, becomes quite dry.

Clear deep amber pour. Malt/bread aroma. Not much hop flavour, but suitable for the style. Nice malt flavours, all around decent brew.

Bottle picked up at the Waterdown LCBO. Pours a clear brown colour, that is rather bubbly, has a white head that recedes to a thin sheet and a touch of lacing. Smells of caramel and a touch of malt. Tastes malty and a little sweet with a bit of bitterness.

Bottle - 500ml. Amber body with an average white foamy head. Boring malty/hoppy aroma with grainy hints. Taste carries grainy, brown sugar, and herbal notes. Ends with a decent bittersweet finish.

UPDATED: JUL 9, 2012 500 ml bottle into pint glass. Rich golden orange/ruby colour with lasting white head. Strong caramel malt aroma with some smoke and nuttiness. Smooth mouthfeel, low carbonation. Sweeter than I was expecting but also more complex. I tasted some vanilla, some dark berry, some toffee in layers. Long, satisfying finish that wraps with a hint of hoppy bitterness.

500 mL Bottle. Deep amber, almost reddish body with a foamy off-white head that settles to a thin but tenacious layer leaving lots of lace. Aroma of sweet malts, caramel, intensely sweet-malty with a note of resiny hops; if I hadnít seen the label I would "accuse" it to be an English pub ale by aroma alone. The flavor screams "English pub" with sweet and toasted malts dominating, hops show up in the aftertaste and linger with that unmistakeable British character. Smooth in the mouth. A Brit you donít have to send to the UK for.

500ml from the LCBO and sometimes called "Highlander Pale Ale" as on their site (right now). Pours a clean copper colour with a warm cap that is frothy, decent lasting and gives out dirty lacing. I really like the smell of this one. Kind of a nutty coffee aroma with some light chocolate and roasted malts. Thin mouthfeel making this one go down easily. The flavours are a bit milder, but still good with some toffee, well-balanced with some nuts and very mild hop arrives in the aftertaste. Hints of dark fruits eventually make it out. I prefer this one not too cold. Quite pleasant overall with some subtle characters.

500ml bottle. Pours a clear reddish brown with a light tan head. The aroma is interesting; cocoa, raisin, licorice, malt, faint floral notes. The taste is very biscuity, dark malt, faint cocoa, with some red fruit, and a clean bitter finish. Itís not going to knock your socks off, but itís definitely a solid dark ale.
