3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 harrisoni (10070) - Ashford, - JAN 5, 2008
Cask handpull at The Belvedere, Liverpool. For anyone who has spent any time in Liverpool, the return of Higson’s does send a little thrill of excitement through you, purely for the historical factor. This beer is gold in colour with a thick beige head. Wow, what a nice bitter. Properly bitter on the finish. Easy drinking sessioning type beer. Attractive leafy green hop aroma, lively condition in the mouth, touch of sulphury yeasty falvour in mouth and then this hoppy bite. Excellent. Not sure if it is anything like the original, but this is a good start.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 tombyars (1102) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - MAR 13, 2012
Tasted this at the Mossend Hotel, Lochwinnoch in January 1997. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear pale amber in colour with a thin white head. Floral hops in the short aroma. Thin resiny mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malts give a slight digestive biscuit note to the weak malt base. Tangy marmalade fruit just about evident in the mouth. Harsh metallic tang of hop resins present in the bitter aftertaste. Finish is fruity with orange rind present in the mouth. An ok session bitter.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 imdownthepub (7494) - Banbury, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - MAY 9, 2008
Cask conditioned at Banbury Beer Fest ’08. Amber to gold with slight head. I was really looking forward to trying this one and its great that the Higsons name has been resurrected however this is a fairly basic bitter, there is a dry, tea like hoppiness on a thinnish malt body. Its ok but not something to chase after.
