Pub (4112), Banbury, Oxfordshire, England May 9, 2008 Cask conditioned at Banbury Beer Fest ’08. Amber to gold with slight head. I was really looking forward to trying this one and its great that the Higsons name has been resurrected however this is a fairly basic bitter, there is a dry, tea like hoppiness on a thinnish malt body. Its ok but not something to chase after.
wyzzywyz22 (387), Wirral, Merseyside, England Jul 2, 2008 Cask, The Ship Inn, Hoylake, Wirral. Darkish golden colour with a creamy off white head. Hops in the nose. Smooth sliding down. Unobtrusive yeast and malt in the flavour. Lovely bitter finish. Great session material.
harrisoni (5331), Ashford, Kent, England Jan 5, 2008 Cask handpull at The Belvedere, Liverpool. For anyone who has spent any time in Liverpool, the return of Higson’s does send a little thrill of excitement through you, purely for the historical factor. This beer is gold in colour with a thick beige head. Wow, what a nice bitter. Properly bitter on the finish. Easy drinking sessioning type beer. Attractive leafy green hop aroma, lively condition in the mouth, touch of sulphury yeasty falvour in mouth and then this hoppy bite. Excellent. Not sure if it is anything like the original, but this is a good start.
