3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 wheresthepath (1090) - - DEC 26, 2008
[Cask at Back of Beyond, Reading] Pours black with burgundy highlights and a large, foamy off-white head that dissipates quickly through drinking. Smell and initial taste dominated by a lovely mix of roasted malts and coffee. Just about the right amount of bitterness to cut through the almost too smooth and creamy texture. This could be a great, easy drinking stout - not one for those who are looking for complexity or depth, perhaps, but one for those who want an enjoyable quaffing stout. However, the whole thing is rather ruined by a sour metallic flavour that comes through a little near the end. Still not at all bad though - a very comforting winter drink.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 tombyars (1102) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - JAN 11, 2012
Tasted this in the Esquire House, Glasgow (JDW) in November 2008. Cask, handpump dispense. Black ruby with light tints around the edges and a thin buff head. Sweet liquorice and dry vinous fruit present in the long aroma. Thin oily mouthfeel and good lacing. Dark malts gives strong juicy blackcurrant fruit and weak mocha coffee notes. Dry bitter hop resins gives a dusty aftertaste with coffee granules. Finish is dry with coffee, toffee and almonds in the flavour. A decent session stout and highly recommended.

Cask Conditioned at J.D. Wetherspoon - The Moon Under Water, London Dark brown color. Light aroma. Mild chocolate and roasted malt flavor, quite smooth, a bit milky too. The roasted malt is stronger at the end, but not too much for my palate. Pleasant.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Ethereal (2399) - Los Angeles, California, USA - JAN 2, 2009
Cask at the Railway, Putney, "Mopping up the Spoons fest", 15th Nov 08. Near black with a little foamy head. Not too much aroma but lots of roasted malt on the tongue. The oat flavour is apparent while the chocolatey nose is rather more in the background. Dry, bitter finish is very nice.
