COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask, Special;
This deep black porter has an initial, full, dry flavour from the roasted barley used, complemented by a judicious blend of hops emerging to add depth and character to the flavour.

Cask (handpump) at Lord Moon Of The Mall (JDW) on 1 November 2011. Dark ruby colour. Beige head. Quite fruity throughout. Not much roasty character but very tasty. Tang of tart bitterness at the finish. Maybe a little smoke. I’m not always a great fan of Hilden beers but this one hit the spot nicely.

Cask Handpump at the Paramount JDW, Manchester 15/11/2010 Fruit and roast aromas. Thick beige head. Dark red coloured a little rich on the palate fruity and hoppy with a bitter and dry burnt roast finish.

Half pint, at Standing Order (JDW). Light brown head leaving fragile lacing behind. Ruby tints to a dark brown body. Smell of grainy chocolate. Earthy, chocolate malts in flavour mixed with sour fruits. Lifeless. Not well kept, being left over from the Wetherspoon festival. Quite possible to drink, though (Edinburgh, 29.11.2010).

Sneaky half at The Baron. Mahogany with ruby winks, a dense beige collar and thick woolly curtains. Very buttery aroma with underlying blackberry. Butter front receding into good ashy malt with streaks of black forest, plum and dark berry fruits. Faint cigar afters. I get the feeling the butter is part of the beer. Pretty good.

A Mes rate. Cask at Baker St ’Sporks.
Black brown with a thin beige head that leaves some reasonable lace. A decent well rounded porter with plenty of coffee and chocolate, a decent hit of bitterness and a dollop of vanilla right at the death. Jolly tasty, if rather basic.

Cask at Penderels Oak (JDW) in London. Deep black-brown with a thin beige head, coffee on the nose, creamy and sweet on the palate with hints of strawberry and maybe plum, then a roastiness coming through on the finish.

Leighton (4100) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - NOV 18, 2010
Cask at The Central Bar JDW, London. Pours a dark, ruby-brown with a strong, creamy, tan head. Lightly roasted, dark malt aroma with hints of chocolate. Nice flavor, with good, dark malts, mild char and tobacco, with faint, roasty bitterness. Light to medium in body with fine carbonation. Dries out a touch in the finish, with lingering roasted malts. Solid porter, if not terribly dynamic.

Cask handpull at Samuel Peto JDW Folkestone. Very dark ruby near black with lasting dark beige head. Some malt on aroma. Decent condition and very good dark fruits and some deep dark malts. Very impressive.
