COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Arthur (1922-2005) was our grandfather’s youngest brother; Hill Farmstead Brewery rests upon the land that was once home to him and his 13 siblings. In his honor, this Saison is crafted from American malted barley, American and European hops, our distinctive farmhouse yeast and water from our well. Unfiltered and naturally carbonated, this is the ale that I dream to have shared with Arthur. 6% Alc/Vol 13ºPlato

Great saison, with a lot of rustic, farmhouse charm added in for taste and complexity. The big surprise for me was the tartness. This was a fresh (~1 month old) bottle, and I was expecting the brett funk to dominate this young, but it had a remarkably developed sourness -- the taste was all cider and green apples. Very, very good.

Cloudy pale body. Nice refreshing citrus aroma. Taste is tons of citrus lemon. Very drinkable. I suppose it is similar to a sprite.

750 mL bottle shared by Jeff in line at 4 Elf. The pour is a foggy golden straw color with a nice white head and some great lace. The aroma is all funky saison. There is a nice sourness to it, a bit of lemongrass, and some great funk. The flavor is much of the same. There is a nice sourness up front with a nice yeasty funkiness on the back end. I'm not big on saisons, but but this is damn good. The mouth feel is light and crisp with an excellent carbonation and a lingeringly smooth, crisp finish. Hot damn is this a good beer ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle, picked up at the brewery, and drunk at home. Colour of hazy lemon squash. Thin, dense, lasting, white head. Beautifully funky, yeasty, bready, and lemony. Smells a lot like a lemony Saison Dupont. Taste has a candied lemon sweetness. It’s funky, lemon pith dry, and soft bitter. Sparkly, fresh, cleansing palate. Finishes long, pithy, lemony bitter. Not hugely complex, and all the better for it. I could drink this every day, for ever. Lovely.

Pours bright light orange with a foamy two finger white head with fantastic lacing. Aroma is of sour fruits, wet hay, sourdough bread, barnyard funk, citrus peels, tropical fruits, musty wood, fresh cut grass, and herbs. Taste is sour fruits, sourdough bread, wet hay, light barnyard, grass, tropical fruits, citrus peel, and some herbal notes. Has a medium body with a creamy mouthfeel and a dry, mostly sour, long finish. Overall, a another excllent, world class saison from the best brewery in the world.

Draft (Monk’s Cafe, Philly). Head is initially small, frothy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is hazy light yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), lightly hoppy (herbs), lightly yeasty (cobwebs), with notes of lemon/lime juice, sour apple, wood, band aid. Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. A competent but unexciting sour ale. It’s a pity to find HF is making trendy Americanized sour/wild ales in the vein of Anchorage and many others. I honestly don’t find anything special in this even though there’s nothing wrong with it. After this and Dorothy, its quite clear Blackberry Farm is the brewery to beat in the US for classic saisons.

Superbe.
