COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Arthur (1922-2005) was our grandfather’s youngest brother; Hill Farmstead Brewery rests upon the land that was once home to him and his 13 siblings. In his honor, this Saison is crafted from American malted barley, American and European hops, our distinctive farmhouse yeast and water from our well. Unfiltered and naturally carbonated, this is the ale that I dream to have shared with Arthur. 6% Alc/Vol 13ºPlato

750ml bottle, consumed on the same day as Anna. The pour yields a lightly hazy, beautiful golden body that shines brightly in the light and shows consistently streaming micro-bubbles. A short but steadfast blanket of creamy, snow-white foam sits at the head, giving tissue-thin, tattered sheets of lace to the glass. The nose is masterfully simple, based in über-fresh malted grain with dry, peppery, floral yeast and crisp notes of grassy hops. Like in Anna, there is a suggestion of wet hay or straw that lends a bit of farmhouse character, but missing is her subtle honey kiss and wildflower complexity. This one is more classic saison. Flavors follow the nose, crisp and snappy, biting grass bitterness showing atop a base of fresh cereal, hay, and dried bread. White pepper and other dry spice show in the yeast profile. The palate is dry as a bone, laced with lively carbonation that quickly clears away what little residuals the fully-attenuated, moderate body leaves behind. Damn fine beer. Not quite the showstopper that Anna is, but an excellent example of a straight-up, classic saison. Close your eyes and you’re instantly transported back in time to the fields of Wallonia.

Very classic, old world saison. Usually on this side of the pond there’s a lot less carbonation. If I did a blind taste test, I’d have a hard time distinguishing this guy from the better European brewed versions.

From 75 cl bottle in tulip. Pour is slightly hazy golden straw with a frothy white head. The nose is citrus, green apples, Belgian yeast and a bit wild. In the mouth, its a firework of flavors that reminds me a bit of Cantillon beers. Pungent sourness with funky horse flavors, citrus, and lots of tartness. Toward the end the bitterness gets stronger with a taste of unripe apples. Medium carbonation. Excellent Saison!

Flavor is slightly sweet with moderate citrus notes of orange and lemon. Nice zesty character. Medium light phenolic notes. Medium light bitterness with light mineral finish. Hints of stone fruit and light acidity. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a really nice beer with nice citrus and phenolic notes. Good finish with a balanced acidity.

750ml bottle. Pours a hazy golden color with generous foamy cream-colored head. Aroma is both fruity and spicy along the lines of Belgian yeasts. Intense flavors of orange peel and spices- more aggressive than one would guess by the aroma. Medium bodied with a somewhat tart finish. I enjoyed this.
