3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 yourefragile (30) - - MAY 12, 2012
From notes, a sampler on draft at Capones in January.
Pour is a hazed golden orange with a frothy white head that fades to a thick ring and decent lacing.
Aroma is more floral and bready than expected with a Belgian yeast body; mild citrus, orange peel and peppery spice.
Flavor is a little overly spicy and honey/yeasty sweet. Has a strong grassy and peppery typical farmhouse base but the tart fruit and stronger hops hurts the drinkability and subtlety.
Soft and lighter bodied with mild carbonation.
A good saison, but not great. Drinks much larger than the 5% ABV and could use a little more crispness and/or earthy funk.

Bottle from a trade with jedwards. Slightly hazy yellow pour, nice white head. Aroma is very classic (and classy) saison - honey, lots of yeast esters, noble hops, hints of dusty malts, hay, a definite rural touch in the over all impression. Taye just like a saison should - rural, rustic, dominated by the farmhouse yeast, hints of lemo , melon, apples, very zesty - wow - definitely top 3 saison for me. The mouthfeel is exceptional, gentle feeling even though the carbonation is excessive. Over all superb balance, superb mouthfeel. The best saison I’ve had since Saison Dupont.

Bottle. First Hill Farmstead saison. Pours a golden orange/yellow with frothy white head that lingers the entire glass. Aroma is malty, grass, a little banana in there at the end. Taste is peppery, malt, hay and some light green apple and sweetness near the end. Overall, a nice saison but doesn’t really distinguish itself from others I’ve had as of late.
