Draft at the farmstead. Murky amber color, massive tan ice cream cone head, great lacing. Aroma is brown bread and light spice. Taste is smooth, malty, fruity. Decent.

My Bottom Line:
This dry Saison’s intelligently fruity hop nose is diversified by lightly toasted cereals before a resinous, herbal signature is drawn onto the palate.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam covers the clear amber.
-As with all Hill Farmstead brews, the flavor profile is complex and seamless. Very impressive.
-Bitterness is quite assertive.
-Can’t wait to get to try this bottle conditioned. Carbonation and mouthfeel would help air out some of the intensity perceived in the finish.

Growler at the release of batch 3 Rosso down at Captain Lawrence. Pours a golden orange amber with a touch of haze under a thin white head. Sweet caramel notes and a touch of yeast. Nice earthy bitterness comes in earlier than expected, toasty. Soft and sweet, light bitter toast and a long bitter finish. Very easy drinking.

In short: A rustic and yeasty rye-based Saison. Very good
How: Tap at Siboire, Sherbrooke QC
The look: Cloudy dark orange body topped by a medium beige head with medium retention
In long: Nose is an unusual mix of rustic yeast and rye. Taste is a bit of fruity caramel, a slice of fresh rye bread, yeast, a light spicy sensation, herbal hops. Appears to be only moderately attenuated but there was something pleasantly dusty in this beer that made it appear quite dry. Full and fluffy body with a lively carbonation. Another good beer from Hill Farmstead. I wanted to slow down drinking but since the arrival of Hill Farmstead I gave up on this idea. At least I’m eating healthy, no barbwire sandwich and no nails soup for me, no sir.

En fût. Verre de 10 oz dégusté au Siboire (Sherbrooke, QC). Arôme: Odeur de céréales avec une pointe d’houblons et d’épices. Apparence: La couleur est cuivrée voilée. Présence d’un moyen col mousseux et d’une fine dentelle sur le verre. Saveur: Goût de céréales et d’houblons avec une pointe de caramel. Durée moyenne de l’arrière goût. Palette: Le corps est moyen avec une texture légèrement minérale. Moyenne effervescence en bouche. Arrière goût légèrement houblonné. (Rating #3617)

Draft at Hawthornes with Dallas, Andrew, Elizabeth, and Jesse. Pours a dark, hazy amber body with spotty white lacing. Aroma is sweet Belgian notes, candy, spice, funk. Mouthfeel is solid - smooth with notes of sweet Belgian candy, funk, yeast, and some hay malts.

Growler. Pours an amber orange body with an off white head and great head retention. Very bitter body. Earth and spicy, tea, and toasted bitterness tangles your mouth in knots. Very dry with a cantaloupe and pear like sweetness that gets washed over to a bitter herbal finish. Very nice, and quite quaff able.

Red brown color with a large, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of fresh pumpernickel bread, earthy yeast, spices, light citrus, and faint brown sugar. Taste of citrus, spices, light caramel and a dry, yeasty finish.

Described as a red saison brewed for March.
Pours a slightly hazy, amber/ruby color with a half finger off-white head that slowly fades into a thin ring. Sporadic spots of lace left behind.
Earthy spicy aroma with touches of sweet malt and dark fruit. Slightly bready with hints of zesty pepper, clove and booze as well as some rye and caramel.
Medium bodied with a very prominent spice flavor that lingers into a long dry finish. Earthy and pretty bitter with a stronger alcohol presence than I prefer alongside the zesty pepper, coriander, clove flavors. There is some sweet malt and dark fruit flavor but the alcohol and spice notes dominate. A bit too one-dimensional and hot for my liking but not bad.

On tap Farmhouse, thanks Jeff B! Clear chestnut pour with a medium white head that lasts nicely. Soft biscuity malt character leads to hints of caramel, and mild funk. Great acidity, which was balanced out by assertive malt character, providing a really well rounded brew. I always get excited to try base beers of funky barrel aged beers I enjoy, and this was no exception. The Norma barrel definitely worked wonders on this, and I enjoyed trying it.
