Review from notes taken at Cigar City Brewing taproom on 7/15/12. Poured on draft into a Cigar City snifter.
Appearance: Pours a cloudy light golden color with a 1 finger fluffy snow white head. Excellent lacing.
Smell: Grassy and floral hops with a touch of grapefruit.
Taste: Pine, grapefruit and lemon zest with a sweet citrus background. Aftertaste is bitter citrus. Very well-balanced.
Mouthfeel: Medium-to-full-bodied with a good amount of carbonation.
Drinkability: Good drinkability, especially for a beer with 9.2% ABV.
Overall: Excellent beer overall. I feel fortunate to have been in Tampa when CCB had this one on draft. An excellent double IPA and one that you should definitely try if you have the chance.

4.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 trancecyclist (38) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 14, 2012
On tap at Capone’s near Norristown, PA. Really outstanding brew and possibly the highest level of bitterness I’ve tasted in a beer. Alcohol is subdued for 9.2%, and the mouthfeel before the bitterness is fairly light, deceptively so. Very little malt presence for a DIPA (which is a good thing from my perspective). Hope they’ll continue this one and bottle it (CC could, since HF doesn’t seem to bottle at all).

On tap at Capone’s. Poured a golden color with a smaller sized head. Aromas of citrus, floral hops, pineapples, and just all around nice hoppiness. Tastes of the same nice hoppiness with the alcohol content hidden. Lighter caramel.

Pours hazy golden orange with a white head. Aroma is grapefruit, tropical fruit and resin. Taste is bitter with a touch of sweetness. This was ridiculously good.

Pours a good golden color, head doesn’t stay long, flavor is very hoppy, with a dirty palate, very fruity/floral aroma.

Draft Three Penny Tap Room. Perfect looking unfiltered gold with thick, foamy head. Retention the entire way down. Great nose, smells of bags and bags of wet fresh hops, intense fruit (citrus grapefruit and lemon)
Taste is much the same with a hearty bread malt as the backbone. Medium in body with amazingly drinkable. Drinks like an easy Pale ale. Not in your face over the top. But it is in your face... If that make any sense. I don’t realize it was over 9% ABV until I was finished with the glass. So flavorful I finished it rather quickly.
The finish is dry bitterness and lingers for a good amount after. Find this on draft. They hit a home run with this DIPA!
4.2 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 adamjackson (1317) - Canaan, New Hampshire, USA - JUL 7, 2012
On tap at Three Penny Taproom. Paid $8 and served in a wine goblet. Freaking gorgeous beer! Insanely cloudy and bright orange appearance. 3 finger head solid white. Fades slowly to a single finger with amazingly perfect head lacing. It looks like a freakinf creamsicle. Columbus and Citra. Pine and grapefruit. Lemon and champagne. Light level of tannins.
Okay. I knew Shaun had an imperial IPA in him. I had no idea it would be this remarkable. Gigantic grapefruit taste. Lemon peels and pine resin at the finish. The taste is gigantic but the mouthfeel is light and airy. Floral and a bit of cedar but very light. High carbonation at 90% on the mouth swish. If you can find this beer, grab a bottle.
