Damon (1993-2004) The time spent with loved ones, now lost, seems to affect our mind and body perpetually: memories happen upon us, unsuspectingly, and bring about tears of fond remembrance. Damon was our brother – devout and patient in an age of busyness and distraction. In his honor, we crafted and conditioned this Imperial Stout in bourbon barrels from our favorite distillery. We still reflect, daily, upon our Damon and his scruffy chin of grey – of his loyalty and his love. 27º Plato 10.5% abv

Bottle. Pours solid black with virtually no head and no carbonation. Aroma of darkly roasted malts, rich chocolate, balanced bourbon, cherry, vanilla, coffee. Flavour is the same, very rich. The bourbon is more prominent than on the nose. The other flavours seem dampened in comparison - may benefit from warming up a little more. Liqueur-like warming sensation. Never thought I’d say this but I feel it would benefit from a light carbonation. Very smooth. Most certainly a slow sipper. Very good, but I do feel a little disappointed - maybe my expectations for this brewer were slightly inflated? Hope not!

Bottle: The aroma consists of milk chocolate, vanilla, light molasses, caramel, bourbon, a hint of apple, and anise. It pours a dark brown with no transparency with a small tan head that quickly fades to a very fine ring. The flavor starts with moderate-heavy milk chocolate, molasses, caramel, and faint fruit. The finish has light espresso, bourbon, anise, and a touch of oak. It’s medium-full bodied with mild carbonation and a creamy mouthfeel.

(500ml bottle) jet black, creamy dark tan head, excellent glass coating. Nose of bourbon, french oak, light ash, alcoholic, maple. Taste is ashy, alcohol, burnt sugars, light bourbon, a bit unbalanced and estery, tons of wood in the finish.

Batch 2. Black pour, tan head. Nose is very light barrel, some chocolate, some dark fruits. Taste is the same, hard to distinguish the barrel at times. Meduim mouthfeel.

beige head that disappears quickly but not entirely with some lacing. coffee coloured. pours viscous, thick like motor oil. taste is boozy, solvent, vanilla, caramal, soy, hazlenut. taste is like aroma, coconut, coffee, umami. mouthfeel is very slick, almost velvet. very dense body, almost no carbonation. woah, this is stellar, so complex and intense! bottle 50cl / bd feb-’13

Thanks berntholer, for sharing this one. If you would like to smell & taste chocolate, praline, hazelnut, soja, vanille, coffee, this is your beer. Velvet mouthfeel. Long aftertaste. Excellent brew!

Bottles kindly shared by Tom 10101 & JHuxley during our epic CMLSG cellar tasting - all 3 versions put next to each other. All of them have an incredibly nice balance between sweetness and roastiness which is unparallelled vs. other American BA RIS’s, which make them all great beers. - Damon: 3.9/5: subtle vanilla and cocoa in the aromas - Damon PBA;: 4.2/5: my favourite: more depth and complexity. Nose reveils cigars, leather, red fruits. Taste is roasty with a nice vinious touch of raisins. - Damon DBA 4/5: despite the fact that it is the most balanced in the nose, I think the taste is a tad bland.

Bottle as shown thanks to Matt. Pours a very dark brown with medium tan head that lasts awhile. The aroma is strong roast, faint metallic, and chocolate. Medium mouthfeel with strong roast, dark chocolate, sweet malt, and light bitterness. Easy to drink, very good.

08/02/2014 750ml bottle shared by Theydon_Bois @ Ma che siete venuti a fà (thanks Colin!). Nera, densa, impenetrabile, bella schiuma color cappuccino, molto persistente. Note di cioccolata fondente, melassa, note legnose, finale amarognolo appena caffettoso, alcol non pervenuto.
