Tap at Capone’s for RBSG 2011. The pour is a cloudy, glowing, yellow with a whipped cream, bright white head. Nose is fresh kumquat and creamsickle with orange sherbet. Taste is full sweet melons with peach, kumquat, sweet grapefruit, Valencia orange, even getting a little meaty like durian and jackfruit. Palate is wildly soft, nearing that ridiculously fluffy softness in FFF Apocalypse Cow. Overall, it could be mistaken for pineapple milkshake. This is how DIPA should be. Just delete all those cheesy, syrupy, sticky, red and brown and orange DIPAs that have taken over the world and replace them with either Hill Farmstead Double Citra or FFF Apocalypse Cow. Then I might not hate DIPAs anymore.

Cloudy yellow orange color. Aroma is nice and hoppy. Citrus, grapefruit and lemon zest. Flavor is bright and bitter hops with a touch of floral accents. Grapefruit and some malt sweetness to balance the hop juices. Nice full body, great.

750 mL Batch 2 growler, compliments of Conor, shared with Matt and Paul. Hazy, peachy amber color with a large, dense off white head. Nice retention and lacing. Aroma is intensely tropical; mango, pineapple and juicy grapefruit with light alcohol and irrelevant malt. What you would expect from citra hops... Flavor is not nearly as sweet, but still less bitterness and rind then I remember from batch 1. Strong pulp and rind balance out the juicy tropical flavors. Medium thick, chewy well-carbonated body with strong carbonation. I like this better than batch 1, but I’m still not crazy about an imperial IPA that only uses citra hops. Not particularly subtle or complex; I’d rather have HF Galaxy or Abner or Edward or Ephraim...

UPDATED: OCT 28, 2013 On tap in a tulip at the brewery. Pours cloudy golden with a lacy, white head. Aroma of citrus hops, resin, some floral notes, a good amount of caramel malts, and light dough. Flavor the same. Smooth texture. A pretty good IPA. Edit: Poured from a growler. Aroma strong of citrusy and fruity and almost spicy hops. Flavor the same. Really good

750 ml growler S: Straight up juice, tangerines, lemons, oranges, and lime but somep pine was able to sneak up in there. A: a hazy brown, orange, with about a inch head. T: againg this is just full of juice, oranges, tangerines, pineapple, and some lime. The flavors are very soft, and there is almost no noticable malt. M: Soft carbonation , a bit silky with mild bitterness. O: A very balance brew, easy to drink. This drinks like a top ranking 6% IPA. Although would perfer this to be more in your face.

Pours from a swingtop bottle a hazy amber color with a medium thick and foamy white head that recedes slowly. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrus fruits, hops and malt. Medium-bodied with flavors of grapefruit, pineapples, hops and roast malt. The finish is fruity with a lingering citrusy hops aftertaste. Solid beer all around.

Growler at home with friends. Pour is hazy golden orange with a big white head and great lacing. Super fruity, grapefruit peel, oranges, weedy, ganja, somewhat piney, and straw aroma. Taste is resinous, deep grapefruit, oranges, citrus, fruit peel, big grass & weed, sprucy, dough and a clean malt profile - straw and biscuit - with a medium bitter finish. Full body with high carbonation. Well-balanced, hoppy and a light malt backbone, yet not overly bitter or harsh. Awesome DIPA!
