E. is for Edward (1917-2002), my grandfather, as well as the name of the first beer that I brewed in my brewery on March 30, 2010. E. is for Easter; brewing in Denmark revealed a European tradition of crafting Easter (Påske) beer. Thus, in honor of E., to the past and future emprises here on Hill Road, a special first anniversary release. Edward fermented with yeasts of Belgian origin, tank conditioned over four months, dry hopped with Galaxy hops, and bottle conditioned. E is for Entelechy, the continued actualization of our potential through spirited effort and vision.

13ºP 6.2% abv. Pale and Caramel Malt; Centennial, Chinook, Columbus, Simcoe, Warrior, and Galaxy Hops; Saison and Brettanomyces Yeast, and our Well Water.

Released usually every year. No 2013 version released. Last batch released March of 2016.

Hazy pour, picking up the brett when pouring. Part of a hill tasting. Some herbal notes, mostly funk going on. Decent, a good summer beer, seems to be a rustic loose interpretation of a few styles blended together. In that, more muddled than defined

This tastes like a Hill Farmstead beer and that’s a good thing. It’s cloudy w/ a creamy white head. There seems to be a lot of tropical fruit such as you get from some strains of brett. There’s definitely a bit of hops in the mix as well but it’s pretty subdued. There is some implied tartness by some more fruity aromas once tasted. It’s a bit bitter and feels balanced and drinkable. I could drink a ton of this stuff.

750 ml bottle to snifter. Looks good; a cloudy orange with white head. Smells and tastes hoppy, funky, and oaky with a pleasantly tart medium-bodied mouthfeel. Tasty.

Bottle from trade from Macboost. Nose is lightly tart with a but load of Belgian yeast character. Pepper, light cardamom, coriander, crazy. Light hay. Taste is initially a lactic tartness followed by funky Brett. Hops are minimal. Ok, I guess.
