Earl (1911-1985) was our grandfather’s brother; Hill Farmstead Brewery rests upon the land that was once home to him and his 13 siblings. In his honor, this Stout is crafted from American malted barley, Flaked Oats, English roasted malts, American hops, Organic Guatemalan Coffee, our ale yeast, and water from our well. It is unfiltered and naturally carbonated. A silhouette of coffee and malt - an embodiment of complexity and drinkability, this is the ale that I dream to have shared with Earl. 7.2% ALC/VOL 18º P Ingredients: Pale, Caramel, and Chocolate Malt, Roasted Barley, Columbus hops; Ale Yeast, and our Well Water.

On tap @ the Jeffrey NYC. Pours a deep dark brown, soft and creamy beige head. Aroma is fresh espresso, coffee, caramel, cocoa, bourbon, light campfire. Flavor is jam packed with roasted malt, smoked cedar, bourbon, light licorice and burnt coffee, bitter hoppy chocolate finish. Light bourbon booze on the finish, as well as dry chocolate hop. This stuff is pretty ridonk... Really dig the balance and hop character pushing through.

Bottle from Luk_, thanks! Pours a complete black with a medium brown head that fades into a rim that leaves some lacing. Nose is of roasted coffee, nuts and chocolate. Taste is of same coffee beans (with the slightlest green pepper angle) and roasted malt. It is not an ounce to sweet, really nice. Body is medium-full and carbonation medium, making the mouthfeel so smooooth. Overall a really nice coffee stout that for whatever reason I had never rated. This is my first time with a bottle but it seemed a little different from the tap version I had last time, a little less green pepper maybe? Anyway, really good.

Typical Hill Farmstead, Shaun has some sort of otherworldly touch and everything he does it really on point. As far as flavor it's coffee with a nice balanced bitter finish. Worth seeking out

Draft at Rye House, huzzah. Pours near black with small mocha head. Aroma is fantastic cold brew, bitter chocolate, burnt toffee, prunes, oak, berries, whisky. Taste is silky dark chocolate fading into coffee milkshake and caramel with a prominent drying hop bitterness and lingering finish. Think Everett plus caramel cold brew. Medium light mouthfeel. Out of control.

Draft at ginger man for lunch. Pours deep brown with nose of chocolate and licorice. Tastes of espresso, dark chocolate, licorice, roasted malts, and some plum. Just right amounts of sweet chocolate and bitter hops. Really lovely stout.

Draft at Gingerman (thanks for the heads up, Jow). Pours a rich jet black body with thin brown lacing. Aroma is rich, luscious chocolate, mild to sweet coffee roast and faint hop profile. Mouthfeel is medium to full with a nice prickly carbonated feel towards to the end; the dark chocolate character dominates over the sweet roast, with a subtle fresh hop flavor lingering towards the end. Great superbly balanced stout. If it wasn’t lunch, I’d take down a few of these.

750 swingtop. Not sure when filled, added to HF lineup recently, still available. Tried the day after initially opened. Lots of built up carbonation when opened. Taste and aroma was lots of dark bitterness from malt and coffee. Roast and coffee. Body was slightly flat but assuming that it was because of the prior opening. ACTH more carbonation than when I had fresh Everett on the second day of a 2L. Overall it’s pretty good stuff. Definitely seem to enjoy the dark HF beers much more fresh than aged or barrel aged.

On tap at the brewery and later at Parker Pie. Dark brown pour light brown head. Coffee and dark roasted malt bouquet. Dark roasted malts, coffee, bakers chocolate, and muted caramel notes. Very good body and mouthfeel.

Bottle. Very dark maroon brown color, brown head. Nice aroma of deep, rich chocolate and coffee. Taste is dark licorice, burnt espresso. Delicious.
