COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Earl (1911-1985) was our grandfather’s brother; Hill Farmstead Brewery rests upon the land that was once home to him and his 13 siblings. In his honor, this Stout is crafted from American malted barley, Flaked Oats, English roasted malts, American hops, Organic Guatemalan Coffee, our ale yeast, and water from our well. It is unfiltered and naturally carbonated. A silhouette of coffee and malt - an embodiment of complexity and drinkability, this is the ale that I dream to have shared with Earl. 7.2% ALC/VOL 18º P Ingredients: Pale, Caramel, and Chocolate Malt, Roasted Barley, Columbus hops; Ale Yeast, and our Well Water.

Rating #600! Shared with Trish. 500ml bottle (2014 release) pours dark rich brown with a small finger of tan head. Nose is bursting with rich roasty earthy coffee, chocolate, mocha. Taste is super smooth silky coffee, cream, cocoa, coffee bean. Finish is more of the deliciousness, rich bitter roasty mocha, coffee, a little sweet dark chocolate. So good.

Pours a thick brown to black with a khaki colored head. Aroma has rich, intense coffee and roasty bitterness in the taste. Thicker mouthfeel with low to medium carbonation.

nice to finally be able to try something from Hill Farmstead, and this one is pretty solid for the style.

Pours black with a thick mocha head...nice lacing. Aroma has nice smoky espresso notes, faint dark fruit, and mild bakers chocolate. Flavor steps up the roasty espresso...light smoky notes, bitter roast and dark chocolate. Mouthfeel is medium and the finisn is chocolatey leading into lingering coffee/roasty bitterness. Well made with a near perfect amount of coffee throughout.

Pour is black with a tight mocha head. Nose is smooth roasted coffee, hint of burnt toffee, with a light vanilla aroma. Taste is more roasty and burnt than the nose, lots of coffee and gets a hint acrid and bitter. Some chocolate malts cling to the back sides of the mouth with notes of vanilla. Body is incredibly soft and creamy with extremely gentle carbonation. Really opens as it warms bringing out more malt depth and richness balancing well with coffee and helping reduce the bitterness.
