Earl (1911-1985) was our grandfather’s brother; Hill Farmstead Brewery rests upon the land that was once home to him and his 13 siblings. In his honor, this Stout is crafted from American malted barley, Flaked Oats, English roasted malts, American hops, Organic Guatemalan Coffee, our ale yeast, and water from our well. It is unfiltered and naturally carbonated. A silhouette of coffee and malt - an embodiment of complexity and drinkability, this is the ale that I dream to have shared with Earl. 7.2% ALC/VOL 18º P Ingredients: Pale, Caramel, and Chocolate Malt, Roasted Barley, Columbus hops; Ale Yeast, and our Well Water.

Bottle thanks to Matt. Pours a dark brown with light beige head. The aroma is roast, dark chocolate, oatmeal, nuts. Thick mouthfeel with nice roast and sweet raisin and oatmeal. Very good.

Black pour with a full beautiful dark brown head. The aroma is intoxicating. Amazing notes of dark, roasted malt, cocoa, and loads of espresso. Some light soy, some smoke, and burnt brown sugar. The body is silky and luscious, the carb is soft and luxurious. The finish is medium bitter, loads of bitter espresso. Sweet and bitter cocoa, and touches of warming alcohol. Incredible stout. World class.

500 ml bottle shared by Huhzubendah, thanks Matt! Pours an oily jet black with ruby red hues when backlit. A thin layer of bubbles line the edge of the meniscus. Aroma is dark bitter chocolate, malt, roast, coffee and cacao. Flavor is same with lactic silky mouthfeel, roasted malt, moderate carbonation and bitter coffee and dry tar finish. Delicious. Only 7.2%?? Flavor is bursting out of this beer for such a low ABV.

Served alongside Earl (bourbon). The beer is dark brown, near black, with a half inch of beige cap. The aroma brings roast, coffee, oats. Definitely smells true to style. A delicious beer. Oatmeal, chocolate cereal grains. On par with Samuel Smith and Young’s (is that sacrilege? - if so, favoring whom?). A solid beer.

Rating #600! Shared with Trish. 500ml bottle (2014 release) pours dark rich brown with a small finger of tan head. Nose is bursting with rich roasty earthy coffee, chocolate, mocha. Taste is super smooth silky coffee, cream, cocoa, coffee bean. Finish is more of the deliciousness, rich bitter roasty mocha, coffee, a little sweet dark chocolate. So good.
