Earl (1911-1985) was our grandfather’s brother; Hill Farmstead Brewery rests upon the land that was once home to him and his 13 siblings. In his honor, this Stout is crafted from American malted barley, Flaked Oats, English roasted malts, American hops, Organic Guatemalan Coffee, our ale yeast, and water from our well. It is unfiltered and naturally carbonated. A silhouette of coffee and malt - an embodiment of complexity and drinkability, this is the ale that I dream to have shared with Earl. 7.2% ALC/VOL 18ş P Ingredients: Pale, Caramel, and Chocolate Malt, Roasted Barley, Columbus hops; Ale Yeast, and our Well Water.

On tap at Hill Farmstead. Poured a dark brown, near black, dark brown head that recedes into a nice cap. Aromas of coffee, bitter bakers chocolate, anise and a light toast. Taste is nicely balanced, just as the nose. Slight bitter chocolate and coffee lends to a nice sweet cereal malt and yeast harmony. Finishes with a medium bodied mouthfeel and a nice crisp bitter coffee that lingers for a minute. Tasty!

From notes. This was shared at a tasting put on by @mikem409 on November 7. The pour on this thing is a nice oily black with a medium tan head and some gorgeous lace. The aroma is heavy in coffee. There is a bit of roasted malt, good cocoa notes, a strong dark fruit presence (prune or cherry) and a light smokey vanilla on the far back. The flavor is just as great. There is a ton of coffee but the rest of the flavors break through as it moves through the mouth. The mouth feel is creamy and viscous with a good medium carbonation that helps it coat really well. The aftertaste is definitely roasty and dry with some good cocoa and coffee Lightly bitter. Love it!

Thanks to Erik for sharing! Pours black with a brown head. Aroma of fresh coffee beans, cocoa beans, roasted malts, weak raw vanilla and some weak sweet liquorice. Delicate! Taste is just very delicate, clean and good! Lots of chocolate, coffee, raw vanilla, cocoa, gentle hops and with a delicate and nice mouthfeel. Like all HF beers - this is so well made!

Bottle: Thanks, Michael. Oily, dark black pour with a huge, chunky, foamy, deep tan head that builds up thick, lasts for a while, & leaves a few nice sheets of wet lacing on its way down the glass. Aroma is full force roasted & oily coffee beans. Not quite charred like French roast, more like a Full City roast. Underside of bitter cocoa nibs, faint vanilla, & deeply driven dried black cherries. Back end has a small twinge of roasted smokiness, much like Everett has throughout. Taste is a coffee bomb as well... Loaded with a light bitterness & roasted element, however gracefully balanced by a touch of milky malt sweetness, hints of dark chocolate, & anise. The finish ends with a kiss of roast, faint smoke, & only last nibble of rich coffee beans. Somewhat creamy body. Lovely beer for coffee drinkers, just great.

Bottle: The aroma consists of heavy dark chocolate, black licorice, anise, molasses, espresso /coffee, and very faint vanilla. It pours a dark brown with no transparency and a small brown head that quickly fades to a thin ring around the edges. The flavor starts with moderate dark chocolate and a hint of vanilla. The finish has moderate-heavy coffee and light-moderate black licorice. It’s medium bodied with light-moderate carbonation.
