COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Earl (1911-1985) was our grandfather’s brother; Hill Farmstead Brewery rests upon the land that was once home to him and his 13 siblings. In his honor, this Stout is crafted from American malted barley, Flaked Oats, English roasted malts, American hops, Organic Guatemalan Coffee, our ale yeast, and water from our well. It is unfiltered and naturally carbonated. A silhouette of coffee and malt - an embodiment of complexity and drinkability, this is the ale that I dream to have shared with Earl. 7.2% ALC/VOL 18º P Ingredients: Pale, Caramel, and Chocolate Malt, Roasted Barley, Columbus hops; Ale Yeast, and our Well Water.

750mL growler, sent from Glouglouburp (thanks Dany!), split many ways, pours black with a small tan head. Roasted aroma with lots of espresso - rich roasted qualities dominate. Flavour of very rich roasted malts, perfect balance between chocolate and espresso, with a chocolate and roasted finish. Great depth and body. Excellent.

750 ml growler picked up at the brewery. Pours a black brown color with a soapy tan head that falls quickly. smell is roasty coffee with some chocolate and carmel. taste is roasty malt/ coffee with some chocolate ending with carmel and a smooth hop bitterness. mouthfeel is smooth and rich. no alcohol to taste or feel. medium body. overall very enjoyable i would drink this again.

Chocolate colored pour; rich, savory aroma of dark fruits and warm spices, strongly suggestive of the coffee and in the best way. Flavor is light, creamy and airy; nougat, cream, coffee, and an oddly perfect touch of citrusy hops. Lightly dry and a mite too thin texturally; finishes dry and bitter. Solid stuff.

Drank on tap (12 oz) at Three Penny Taproom in Montpelier, Vermont, on July 29, 2011. Black, no head. Aroma of barley and oats very malty, with notes of sweet coffee. Bitter coffee taste, barley very malty, good caffeinated bitterness. It’s just one of their beers, but I understand why they are so appreciated!

UPDATED: DEC 5, 2014 Draft, 2011 RBSG bus tour. Brown-black body, small off-white head. Aroma is medium sweet, roast, grapefruit, some floral/orange. Taste is moderately sweet, roast, grapefruit/orange. Medium body, light acidity. (7/3/7/3/14)

12/6/14, bottle. Small brown head atop brown-black body. Aroma is moderately sweet, coffee, milk chocolate, some roast. Taste is moderately sweet, milk chocolate, some roast, caramel, light earthy, grapefruit. Sticky medium body. (7/3/7/3/14)

On tap at the Hill Farmstead First Anniversary Party. Served in a Hill Farmstead long-stem tulip. Pours a very, very dark brown color with a good off-white head and some really nice lacing on the way down. The nose brings forward some really nice coffee along with some roast and earthy characteristics. A bit of chocolate in the background as well as some hops. The flavor has nice coffee character along with some roast. Chocolate throughout. Mouthfeel is really excellent and the oats come through. No noticeable booze. Really a fantastic stout. on tap @Capones Pre-RBSG-pours a tight/rich liht brown head and black color. Aroma is pine/resin. Taste is pine/resin hops with some bite, roasty dark malt-chocolate/some ash.

This poured a very dark brown color with a great tan head. Aroma was of light smokey coffee, very roasted malt almost burnt, and some dark chocolate too. Flavor was very smooth dark roasted coffee with light dark chocolate and some decent citrusy bittering hops. Great.
