Earl (1911-1985) was our grandfather’s brother; Hill Farmstead Brewery rests upon the land that was once home to him and his 13 siblings. In his honor, this Stout is crafted from American malted barley, Flaked Oats, English roasted malts, American hops, Organic Guatemalan Coffee, our ale yeast, and water from our well. It is unfiltered and naturally carbonated. A silhouette of coffee and malt - an embodiment of complexity and drinkability, this is the ale that I dream to have shared with Earl. 7.2% ALC/VOL 18º P Ingredients: Pale, Caramel, and Chocolate Malt, Roasted Barley, Columbus hops; Ale Yeast, and our Well Water.

On tap @ HF anniversary. Nice black pour with a veil of cream foam. Aroma of roasted grain, coffee, chocolate and fresh hops. Taste is rich coffee flavour, with a good not too bitter finish. You can feel the richness of oats but it is still so quaffable for a stout, very well done brew.

On tap at Hill Farmsteads first anniversary celebration. Black pour with a tan froth. The flavor and aroma demonstrated epic roasty characteristics with coffee, chocolate, and oat coming through as well. Thick rich palate with a sweet roasty finish.

Growler sample via and shared with oakbluff. Jet black in colour with medium carbonation. Aromas are of high quality fresh brewed coffee, backed by milk chocolate and a touch of vanilla. Coffee plays the largest role in the mouth as well, but the secondary notes come through a bit stronger here. Oatmeal, faint caramelm roasted barley, and a bit of matchbox all play a role here. Medium to light bodied, with great bite from the roast and a very subtle tartness coming from somewhere. Another home run from Hill Farmstead.

Growler from Glouglouburp- thanks again Dany! Pours opaque cola with frothy two finger head. Huge delicious coffee nose, slight chocolate, but mostly just unbelievable coffee. Taste- a juicy tart twang from the oatmeal, slight bitterness, and tons of fresh roasted coffee . Fantastic. Drinkability is off the charts. Very light bodied but yet the flavour profile is amazing and the freshness of the coffee really shiines through. HF really nailed this

Growler filled at the brewery. Pours black with a small rim of light tan head. Aroma of rich sweet roasted malt and a hint of coffee, graham cracker, and chocolate malt. Flavor of coffee and charred/burnt malt upfront with a roasty malt finish, light bitter coffee grounds, and bitter chocolate. The coffee presence in this one is not super bold, just melds well with the stout base of the beer. Very enjoyable. 7/4/8/4/15 [3.8/5]

Sampled from the tap at the brewpub. Poured black with a brown head that lasted throughout the beer. Aroma was full of strong bitter coffee with some dark grains that helped quell the bite of the coffee. Flavor was full of coffee as well with a nice creamy dark bread backing that balanced the beer nicely.

Nice balanced stout. Complex aromas and flavours, coffee notes present but not overwhelming.

Had twice now and it is just awesome. Just nice and smooth, well balanced. Great level of roasted malts, smooth body. A touch of vanilla and sweetness with a surprising hop balance. Nothing overly bitter either. Adds to the rich coffee that also has that light bitter roasted flavor. Well done!

THIS BEER IS STUPID GOOD. Pours a black body with a tan roast y head. A bitter roasted malt chocolate body. A hint of a vanilla sweetness to balance but never sweet. Just a really solid drinking stout. 3 pints later i forgot about my 6 hour drive. Nice to see a brewer that can make an awesome ipa, saison, & stout. Seriously underated.
