This poured a very dark brown color with a tan head that lasted forever!! Aroma was lots of dark roasted malts but not overly roasted and burt, lots of dark chocolate too, and some citrusy hops as well. Flavor was awesome dark chocolate, roasted malts, nice balance of hop[s and even some woody notes too. Great porter.

Thanks to largadeer for sharing this. 500ml bottle. Great appearance, darker brown in color with a large two finger tan head that lasts. The aroma is nice and hoppy, rather piney like a black IPA but with considerable roasty/charcoal notes. Somewhat smoky with dark chocolate notes. The flavor is (sorry I’ve only watched this show once but it applies here) LEGEN...wait for it...and it would be crazy if they used lactose in this beer because here comes the...DARY. Damn this flavor is big, and it is good. So much flavor and so much complexity. Dark chocolate, roast, piney hops, and...well...awesomeness to be honest. Medium-bodied and exceedingly dry with great hop bitterness. Wow, this beer has truly impressed me. Best of the night.

Tap at Capone’s Best porter I have had to date. The appearance was spot on. Pours black. I’m not sure if the dense, dark tan head would have ever fully dissipated. It sat for 30 minutes and did not diminish at all, so who knows. Great lacing. Aroma is fresh cut wood, roast, vanilla, chocolate and some hazelnut. Taste is similar, but without the intense hazelnut. Probably the least impressive part for me, but still really good. Palate is thick and creamy, full-bodied. Really blurs the porter/stout line. Just awesome.

Bottle at Capone’s. Pours black. Nose/taste of heavily roasted coffee, chocolate, burnt black malts, light smoke and touch of peat. Medium body.

Tap at Capone’s and later at Eulogy for RBSG Philly 2011/Philly Beer Week. The pour is midnight with a utterly insane deep mocha head erupting and sitting still for about 30 minutes. No joke. Infinite retention and giant lace of Jesus. Nose is wet tobacco, chili pepper, hazelnut liquor similar to De Molen Heaven & Hell. Taste has some salty chocolate bacon, savory umami, deep and rich baker chocolate and spicy chili pepper. Buttery, full, De Molen imperial stout palate. Wickedly rich. Unfair to put this in the porter category. Definitely the new superlative for style.

Draft. Pours reddish brown with an off white head. Malty sweet aroma with light roast, vanilla, toffee, and a hint of dark fruits. The flavor has sweet malts, coffee, a hint of dark fruit, and a light roast. Nice.

Pours black with a nice tan head. Aroma is of heavy roast, coffee, and some light chocolate. Taste is complex with a nice, silky smooth mouthfeel, chocolate, roast, coffee with a slight tell of alcohol on the finish.

UPDATED: MAY 3, 2012 Bottle. Black pour with a finger of tan foam and heavy lacing. Very chocolatey aroma, light roastiness, a bit of coffee. Taste is bitter dark chocolate, roasted malt finish (burnt toast). Palate is maybe this beers strongest point, very well carbonated, pillowy with a nice lingering finish. Packe with flavors, yet unagressive and velvety. The best porter I’ve had.

On tap at Capones. Ebony with some tan froth. Nose is smoke, oak, coffee and chocolate. Medium to full body with a tang. Taste is smoke, walnut, chocolate, prune and earthy hops. Coffee just peeking out in the finish.

Tasted from a bottle in mid-April 2011. Pours oily black with a thick tan head that slowly recedes to a thin, even blanket of lace. The nose is roasted dark malt, freshly roasted coffee, light vanilla, and dark chocolate. The flavor is lightly sweet vanilla up front, moving to more roasted malt and coffee notes along with dark chocolate. The body is full with light carbonation and a long roasted coffee and dark chocolate finish.
