4.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
On tap during Philly beer week- pours blackish with a tannish offwhite head. aroma takes your breath away, chocolate, coffee, malt, beckoning a sip. Sip is as good as aroma. Big malty flavors wash over the pallet, with overtones of chocolate coffee espresso everything a porter should be. I donít know how many times I said this is the best porter I had when I was drinking this. It was more than once.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle courtesy jcvanderbilt. Pours pretty near to black with a creamy cocoa head. Soft, sweet aroma with forward notes of milk chocolate and caramel, slight lactose, slight sawdust. Flavor is really potent and deep, bright up front with fresh-brewed espresso and then transforming into a long chocolate-anise denseness to finish. Subtle accents of smoke, burnt bread, and molasses, plus a lingering zest like eating roasted coffee beans. Thick, silky body with low carbonation. This one really pushes the limits of how good a straight-up porter can be. Luscious stuff.

4.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Pours a nice black with a sheet of mocha foam. Smells robust son! Chocolate, coffee, roasted barley, coffee (faint), cocoa powder, graham and more toasted malts. Flavor follows suit with a good earthy roasted character, a strong cocoa flavor, nice bits of coffee nib, and a sweetness Iím surprised at that is transient in nature and does not linger. Great flavor. Full bodied with tight and sharp carb loosely scattered, this leaves your mouth coated and satisfied, yet wanton for the next sip. This is a world class beer, and I think the best porter Iíve ever had. Sincerely wish I had a clone recipe.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
500 ml...wish it was a liter bottle thanks to bytemesis . Pours a awe inspiring jet black color with a large tan mocha head. A rich nose of chocolate, lactose, big caramel. Big flavor abound with mocha, caramel, dark fruit, woody, some yeasty dry flavors, big sweetness almost balanced by bitter metallic roast and milky lactose. Lovely art here. This is a hefty brew, and brings the total package. Umm. Awesome. Roast and sweet caramel in the finish. A bit like a Baltic Porter, anise and licorice evident. Wonderful.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Poured from a bottle into a Spiegelau tulip. From notes, July 26, 2012.
A: Roasted coffee, chocolate, toasted malt and white bread crust.
A: Pours deep brown, practically black, with a nice one and a half finger width mocha-colored head leaving thin trails of lace down parts of the glass.
T: Follows the nose with smokey roasted chocolate. Toffee, light caramel and plenty of dry dark/raw chocolate with a smooth chocolatey finish. The beer is not very complex, but itís a luscious symphony of creamy chocolate flavors throughout.
P: As with all Hill Farmstead beers, the mouth-feel is very near perfect. Medium bodied with creamy carbonation.
O: Worldclass for sure. Fantastic flavor profile, complimented immensely by the rich mouth-feel. Quite possibly the best porter on the planet.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle: thanks to LostGringo! Super dark, almost completely back with a nice layer of mocha-tan foam that settles to a nice collar. Aroma is milky chocolates, smooth roast, light coffee, a mild underlying sweetness, a touch of borderline campfire smokiness, & a beautiful, nutty finish. Taste follows right along, beautiful roasted malt profile with hints of bitter dark chocolate, coffee, burnt brown sugar, faint char, a kiss of dark fruit, & a slightly roasty, char finish. Robust & roasty with a smooth, creamy sweetness undercurrent that balances perfectly. A damn fine porter, in all aspects.
