Farmstead wheat ale aged in oak barrels with satsuma mandarins. Flora is the wine barrel aged version of Florence (1915-1967), our grandfatherís sister as well as the name of our wheat farmhouse ale. In her honor, amidst the fleeting days of summer, we chose to fill French oak wine barrels with Florence and store it away. After many months, a Biere de Table emerged. At the end of a summer day, this is the ale that I dream to have shared with Florence.

Bottled late summer, enjoyed the 375ML by myself, full pour for the haters. 55F temp leaving an ounce behind for dregs.

A - Looks like a rich Chardonnay, slight tint of yellow with champagne like bubbles. The little head there is fades in about a minute.

S - Nose is earthy / funky with a slight citrus zest. Not as overpowering as I anticipated. Nose is also slightly grapey with musty tannins and oak.

T - The taste is still unquestionably Hill Farmstead Flora. Nice explosion of wheat, tart grape, apple and pear notes and an earthy rustic, slightly bitter finish. The orange however, itís there...itís totally there but in no way does it raise its hand and draw attention. I would just say this is a Juicy Flora or a more acidic citrusy Florence with an added tart and oak presence.

M - Very dry body, carbonation doesnít erupt as only 50% of the beer turns of foamy bubbles on a very heavy swish. This was also not a bottle bomb or gusher. Iíd say the carbonation is spot on.

O - As far as Hill Saisons go, this beer rests somewhere between Arthur and Ann for me. Art, Flora, Mimosa and Arthur being my top beers followed by Ann, Anna, Florence and Edith. Iíd drink Arthur over this beer but it still holds its own and a beer Iíd love to have again.

375mL bottle, side-by-side with regular Flora, pours a hazy yellow with a small white head. Aroma brings out white wine, floral notes, and a little citrus. Flavour brings out loads of the satsumas - which is surprising - I thought there wouldnít be that much difference. There isnít much of the wine barrels left on this version. This is much more citric than regular Flora. I think this eclipses regular Flora ever so slightly - itís quite a different beast. Wonderful stuff.

Thanks Sam Lee. Pours a hazy gold, white head. So this one is good. But the Satsuma addition has taken away from what is probably one of the best beers in the saison category that I have hever had. The Satsuma muddles it. Takes away from the crisp and clean flavors. Its still good, but I would never choose this over regular Flora.

Boring gold pour with virtually zero head. Totally out of character for HF. Turns a hazy yellow color with a splash of yeast. Emboldened mandarin aroma with this addition.

Puckering, fruity, oaky, citrus galore, so nicely balanced. Improves significantly as it warms and with yeast. Oaky character didn't even show up until the bottom 20% of the bottle. Perfect amount of citrus and pucker. Excellent.

375ml bottle... Pours a very pale grassy pilsner like hue and topped with a thin creamy white head... Oaky wine barrel presence with a touch of vanilla followed up with a mandarine orange finish. Splendid... More of the same in terms of the flavor with more of a pronounced tart sourness with white wine grapes and more of that mandarine orange goodness. Sour semi-dry finish. Very nice.

Bottle, generously shared by quackus42, 10/18/2013. Pours a pale cloudy golden straw color, thin layer of hazy foam on the surface. Aroma is wheat, pulpy orange with soft barnyard notes, sharper orange concentrate coming through, citrus as well. Taste is sharp tangerine, wheat undertones, lingering citrus, brett, oak on the tongue. Light, bright body, creamy. Delicious.

Bottle shared with and compliments of Alan, thanks man. Pours a light hazy gold color with small white head, went away immediately. Aromas of heavy oak, lemons, barnyard blanket, tangerine, mandarin orange funk, Cali orange bud, and white vino. Flavor is insanely bright and juicy with mandarin, sour peach, and grapefruit zest working together with the horse funk, oak, and earthiness. Light to medium body. Another gem from HF.

375ml bottle in a tulip. Pours hazy golden with a white head. Aroma of oranges, tartness and sourness, oak and wine, some wheat and pale malts, and light fruits. Flavor a great blend of oranges and the wine and sour/funky notes. Average to smooth texture. Another great HF beer.

Pours a golden orange with no head. Aroma is funky lactic and basementy with some sharp citrus/orange. The orange is less prevalent on the taste but a sharp citric acidity is present. Really nice beer but not quite as good as regular Flora.
