Pour from a bottle into a glass gave a dark brown black color with a nice tan mocha head. Aromas of cocoa, coffee. Medium bodied with perfect mouthfeel. Flavors are immensely complex and delicious. Roasted smoky malt, dark roast coffee, vanilla, oak and in the background the Madeira wine from the barrel. Not overly sweet or sticky and finishes dry enough. Fantastic beer and one of my new favorite stouts!

From notes taken during a tasting a couple weeks ago. Moderate red wine notes with light oak and some dark fruit. Medium light roast with light chocolate and hints of soy sauce. Pours black with a dark mocha head that lingers on the edges. Flavor has moderate Madeira notes with moderately strong roast notes. Light chocolate and dark fruit character. Some light soy sauce and faint oak character. Medium bitterness and a hint of alcohol. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a pretty nice beer with a good red wine character and nice dark fruit notes. A bit of oxidation in the form of soy sauce starting to show through.

Genealogy of Morals, batches 1 & 2. The beer is dark brown, nearing black, with a half inch of beige collar. The aroma offers roast, coffee, barrel character, red wine - smells great. Still lots of coffee presence. A hint of spice, perhaps cinnamon. Big barrel notes. Delicious beer. I prefer this to Damon and Port Damon, but Double Damon is superior IMO. Medium to full bodied and slick on the palate. Chocolate notes. Hints of dessert wine. Very good.

500 ml bottle shared by Huhzubendah, thanks Matt! Pours a very dark brown color of prunes/near black with hues of dark cherry juice when backlit. Fading beige head moves to the edge, and pours nearly still. Aroma is riasted malt, light smoke, peat, whiskey, oak, dark fruits with prune, cherry, rye and light cinnamon notes. Flavor is same with coconut sweetness in addition to above. Full bodied with silky creamy mouthfeel, subdued carbonation, and sweet tobacco finish. Delicious.

Bottle, thanks to Dan for sharing, tasted 03/02/2014. Pours dark black, medium dark tan head fades to a fizzy haze over half the surface, medium ring of lacing left behind. Aroma is sharp coffee, bitter roast grounds, moderately sweet dark chocolate and toffee, vanilla, marshmallow, lingering fruity character. Taste is dark chocolate baking powder, marshmallow, round coffee roast, dark fruity finish with earthy barrel notes. Becomes more complex and differentiated as the beer warms. Medium thick body, could use a bit more depth to round things out. Really nice.

500mL. Rating this for my husband’s bday since I hate rating. Pours deep black with good carbonation. Aroma is fresh coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon. Taste is molasses, steak fat, some of that bleu cheese GT is harking on about. Creme brulee, dark fruits from the Madeira, hazelnut. Palate is silky, dense, a tad too sweet for me. Balances out in the long, drier, bitter finish.

GT2 (9410) - Oceanside, California, USA - OCT 1, 2013
500mL thanks to djrn2 on BA. Pours inky with higher, red foam. Tepid pour still generates a slightly overcarbonated head. Lacing is nuts- super coating, webby. Martian rust red color. Awesome. Nose is savory, a lot of black crayon, tar, and au poivre peppercorn steak. A lot different than expected. Moves to charred figs, dates, raisins with flashes of soy. Complex, keeps you guessing. Taste up front is stickier sweet with a longer peppery finish. Dense body is cut by higher carbonation in the mouthfeel. Fatty steak with caramelized figs/gorgonzola bitter cheese combo as it warms. But there is also buttery, melted French dark chocolate truffle. The Madiera barrel manifests as a sweeter grape and then richer dark fruits in both the nose and taste. It’s initial sweetness in the taste gets killed by tar, bitter chocolate, and bitter gorgonzola/bleu cheese with density. Really a crazy, wildly complex beer that still falls clearly into the RIS category.

Bouteille de 500 ml partagée lors d’une dégustation Ratebeer Montréal. Arôme: Odeur de café torréfié et de chocolat. Apparence: La couleur est noire opaque. Présence d’un mince col brun mousseux et d’une large dentelle sur le verre. Saveur: Goût de café avec une pointe de chocolat au lait. Durée moyenne de l’arrière goût. Palette: Le corps est moyen avec une texture onctueuse. Faible effervescence en bouche. Présence de chocolat en arrière goût. (Rating #4737)

Bottle @ Stouts Tasting Pt II. Cheers to Bruce for landing this! The pour’s deep brown with a tiny tan head. The aroma’s roast coffee, bitter dark chocolate. Nice accents from the port barrel aging. Plenty of jammy vinous notes. The taste is chocolate-dipped dark fruit. Moderately spicy woody bitterness. Rich caramel and toffee. Port-soaked cherry. Slightly hot on the finish. Full body. Supple and smooth. Effortless stuff. Once again, Hill Farmstead delivers.

Bottle consumed at THE stouts tasting part 2, thanks to Bruce. It pours opaque darkest brown with a small dark tan head. The nose is roasty, rich coffee, toffee, toasted coconut, vanilla, light tang, berry (particularly bramble) and dark fruit. The taste is rich roast, intense coffee, sumptuous fruitiness, blackcurrant, red grape, bramble, jam, tanginess, toast, nice bitterness, light ash, some acidity and warming alcohol with a rich, roasty finish. Full body, moderate carbonation and viscous mouth-feel. Rich, good depth of flavour and interesting flavour profile. Pretty delicious.
