COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
George was our grandfather’s brother, and Hill Farmstead Brewery rests upon the land that was once home to him and his 13 siblings. George is our American Brown Ale. Hopped, rightfully so, with Centennial, Cascade, and a touch of Columbus… 6% ALC/VOL 15.5º P

750ml swing-top growler shared with blankboy and GregClow, via JerCraigs. Deep clear brick red, decent creamy/foamy tan lasting head. Just right aroma - nutty, lightly lactic, dry, not much alcohol - taste follows, nutty, lightly herbal, not at all sweet or nougaty. Solid body, a little gritty (in a good way), modest carbonation, average malty finish. Really good.

On tap at The Reservoir. Pours reddish brown with an off white foam. Nuts, toast, and light toffee flavors. Aroma is more hop forward, but this drinks like a good brown ale.

6 oz. pour at Farmhouse Tap & Grill. Darker brown color with a thin cap of white head. Nose is coffee, big floral / pine hop presence. Nice Roasted and nutty flavors with firm bitterness coming from the pine / floral hops and a hint of citrus. Also have a nice earthy malt character in the beefy part of the body with notes of chocolate. Medium bodied with mild carbonation. Very dry and bitter finish.

Perfect appearance, stylistically; deep garnet but glassy, and capped with lacy beige. Cedar smoke, mild tobacco, minerals and candy chocolate compose the nose, greenish and offering flashes of hops consistently. Butterscotch, hazelnuts, and Brazil nuts form the earthy malt floor.

Holly, star anise and cinnamon lead the flavor; surprisingly herbal and misty, though comfortably surrounded in earthy malt and bitter chocolate. Almond, high-sugar chocolate and vanilla offer teases of a luxurious malt flavor. This tends to remain restrained.

Super-clean, medium texture with lightly prickly carb. Wooden, dry malt finish with some needles and maple sweetness lingering. Though the hop level probably provides too much complexity and motion for the style, this is excellent.

From notes. Taster at the source. Pours amber brown big beige head. Aroma of dirt and smoke. Taste caramel, mineral, earth, dark smoked malts. Not my favorite from HFS.

On tap at the brewery. Dark brown pour with a kaki head. Enticing dark roasted malt aromas. Somewhat bitter with earthy roasted malt, tangy black coffee, and baker’s chocolate highlights. Good body and mouthfeel.

On tap at blackback (from prior notes): Pours dark brown with a thin white / tan head. Aroma of caramel, roasted malt, toffee, earth, dry leaves. Taste is similar, but with a nice balance of hops on the back end to even out the sweeter malts. This is en exciting brown ale... you can’t say that about many browns.

Served on-tap at TJ’s.

A - Pours deep brown bordering on black with a nice one finger tall off white head, quickly dissipating down to a light film, leaving thin sheets of lace on the sides of the glass.

S - Smells of dark roasted malts, plenty of hop bitterness, chocolate, toasted nuts, toffee, caramel and molasses.

T - Starts off with a mix of chocolate and dark roasted malts quickly being joined by the mild hop bitterness, molasses, caramel, toffee, a bit of dark fruit, toasted nuts and dulled mineral earth. Finish is a touch sweet with plenty of dark roast, lingering long after the finish.

M - Medium body with moderate carbonation. Dark, slightly hoppy feel from start to finish.

O - A solid brown ale. The hops mesh well with the base flavors, allowing it to still be drinkable while still having lots of flavor. Great to revisit this one after a few years.

Sample @ RBWG, Asheville. Brown pour with a small head. Dark roasted malts. Tilled earth. Chocolate glazed donuts. The flavor has a distinct accent of anise and licorice. Dark roasted cocoa and old wood closet. Medium body, supple and smooth. Solid, but not to the level of HF’s hoppy stuff.

Bottle sample during RBWG Friday night tasting. Pours cola brown in color with a medium sized beige head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malt, chocolate, earthy hops, a splash of resin, this is not an average brown ale, very tasty. Another solid brew from these guys.

Growler from kfarrell7, thanks a bunch. Beautiful dark chestnut body with a large offwhite head leaving extremely nice lacings. Caramel, nuts, coffee, chocolate, light hops, dark fruit. Oily texture. Soft to medium carbonation. Smooth and round.
