4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
A hazed blonde ale with a thick and lacing white head. In aroma, a pungent citrusy hops with catnip, spices, very nice. In mouth, a crisp malt with signature pungent hops, citrus pulp, light funky character, beautiful. On tap at the Black Back, March 12, 2012.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: APR 23, 2013 In short: A very tasty, bitter, refreshing and dry fruity blonde IPA. Kick-ass
How: Tap at Three Penny Taproom, Montpellier VT
The look: Cloudy blonde body topped by a medium white head with medium retention
In long: Nose is aggressively fruity with an explosion of grapefruits and tropical fruits of all kinds. Body offers crisp malts that feels half-biscuits and half-crackers. This is a solid malt backbone but also a neutral malt bill that lets all the room for the hops flavors. The hopping has a lot of bitter grapefruits and a lot of refreshing tropical fruits. The finish has a medium+ bitterness level and also a nice dryness with dry grass coming through. Probably one of the driest Hill Farmstead hoppy beer I’ve had. Wow, another kick-ass Hill Farmstead brew… to me building a brewery in the middle of nowhere in the middle of a Vermont field seemed like a strange idea, but I now realize that Shaun Hill is the most visionary man since 1986 when Steve Jobs thought that it would be awesome if one could answer the phone with his Walkman.

My Bottom Line:
Cushy and very drinkable, this IPA delights with its citrusy and spicy hop freshness, diversified by grassy angles and a levelled resinous bitterness.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam covers the hazy pale blond.
-The mouthfeel is as light and airy as any other excellent Hill Farmstead brew.
-.This may not be the most captivating IPA in their lineup, but it is a smashing example of their ability to showcase hops while never making the palate tired of them.
-Malts offer mild honeyed/caramelized sweetness to support the prolific hop contribution.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Growler from the brewery, thanks E. Pours a pretty much perfect lemon somewhat translucent color with a subtle orange hue and nice white head. The aroma is amazing, especially after a few minutes. Plenty of delicious citrus hop notes. The flavor starts off with nice bitter, lightly zesty, and light sweet hop notes the blend really well on the palate - definitely bigger in body and flavor than the delicious Edward as described. The body is spot on - medium with just the right carbonation.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Another great IPA from Hill Farmstead. This really reminds me of a less aggressive abner. Pours a murky yellow/orange with almost nitro like head. Aroma is resin, citrus, and grass. Taste is heavy citrus with little to no sweetness and a dank resiny finish. My only complaint is a slight aspirin like astringent bitterness that detracts from the crisp flavors.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Very pale pour. Serious haze.Looks, smells and tastes like golden grapefruit juice. Bright and floral. Very light malt base. A bit delicate. Carbonation is sharp and stands out more on the tongue than bitterness. A unique IPA. Dry and quite crisp. Not sure what to think of it. I really enjoyed this beer, and I don’t know what to call it other than an IPA, but it doesn’t quite fit the mold of what I look for in an IPA.

on tap at the lord hobo tap takeover. beautifully hazy pale color, with good head. the nose has great flowery hoppy notes. the taste has a subtle up front sweetness with a strong bitter finish. there’s no doubting that this is an ipa rather than a pale ale. the way it should be.
