Bottle via trade, split at ChrisO tasting, London. It pours a dark brown / black color with a medium creamy brown head. Aroma is rich and roasty, with boozy orange notes, vanilla, cocoa powder, lactose, charred oak and orange marmalade. Taste is again quite charred and dry with good medium sweetness of milk chocolate, orange marmalade, vanilla ice cream. More orange liquor and light ashes and espresso in the finish. Full bodied with creamy texture and soft carbonation. Overall, super tasty and well rounded

Bottle... Pours thick and black with a small, brief, beige head. The aroma features fudge among a lot of weird, sweet, marmalade-like notes. Full-bodied with a viscous mouthfeel and lazy carbonation. The flavor features burnt, bitter charcoal, accompanied by only a whisper of Grand Marnier. Finishes with acrid, carbonic, burnt and bitter unpleasantness. Bottle courtesy of landhoney!

(375ml bottle from MIkkeller & Friends Bottle Shop) Pours pitch black with a tiny ring of dark tan bubbles and no lace. Aroma has a core of rich dark roasted malts and chocolate, a little praline, some candied orange peel, orange liqueur overtones with attendant oak, very light liquorice. Palate is sweet, bright and fruity despite a fairly rich underlying roasted malt base. There is cocoa, praline, orange peel, floral notes, leathery oak building in the middle and orange liqueur making itself clear. Some smoky, ashy sort of roast and liquorice as well. Some alcoholic hints, but more barrel than heat. Medium bodied with average carb, it’s an elegant stout rather than a really mega-rich one, despite a good malt core. The integration of malt, fruit addition and barrels is really lovely though.

Bottle. Aroma is awesome. Orange candy, chocolate, dark fruit, and oak. Taste a little sweet up front but gets a little bitter and dry in the finish. Lots orange and chocolate throughout. Light booze in the finish. Solid but comes off a little artificial sometimes. Like chocolate covered orange pez.

375 mL bottle poured into a snifter. Originally reviewd 4/21/2014. Very inky black. Impenetrably dark. Small khaki head. Wispy surface. Intense roasted malt aroma. Oak. Lots of both. Not an intense amount of citrus, but it’s there. Taste is also intensely roasty. Bright orange flavor. Gets extremely oaky without any abatement in the roast. Dry ashy finish. Funny fruity finish. Abrasive. Very bitter. Very roasty. Medium body. It’s a shame. The concept seemed so good and the original beer was so good, but this isn’t working so well.

Bottled. Black, minimal head. Aroma of chocolate and orange. Sweet with full body and soft mouthfeel. Soothingly creamy with chocolate and licorice. Orange blossom. Mild and rich.
