COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The name originates from an anagram (Anchor Steam) but the key element of this pre-prohibition style beer is the process of fermenting it with a lager yeast at an ale-like higher temperature.

Draught at Rogue Kitchen & Wetbar (W. Broadway), Vancouver
12oz

Copper color with small head. It has some aroma of caramel and bread crust. The mouthfeel is very dry, with dry caramel flavor and a cereal accent, and light bread; the bitterness is high, quite disturbing in the end; dryness and bitterness combine in a metallic final.
Not very interesting.

Solid lager all the way around . . . not sure about why the lack of love on this one. For the style, itís very very good. Getting toasted malts, and rich flavor. Very, very drinkable.

Can @ America Strikes Back, Ulfborg. Pours hazy amber with airy white head. Clear aroma of yeast and malt, with notes of hops. Bitter, hoppy and metallic flavour, with notes of diacethylene and touches of malt and citrus. Skunky hints. Watery. Bitterish aftertaste. Nothing to write home about.

Tap, brewery. Pours a slightly hazy orangish copper body with a minimal fizzy off-white head. The nose is dry toasty malt with a light citrusy hop note. The flavor is more sweet than I expected with some toasty malt and husky graininess. Finishes with some citrusy hop bitterness. Medium bodied with a bit of a clingy malt body and fizzy carbonation. Not sure what to think about this one, much sweeter than most Steam beers, but maybe that was what they were shooting for.

Draft - Rating was lost but in total just not that great. Weird skunk ones and very herbal. Either I donít like the style or nobody can brewing.
