3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
16oz. bottle: This one was tough to get into. The plastic (seemed harder than wax) seal needed some serious chipping to get past it. The beer pours a ruby tinged brown color. There was very little head on it, and it didn’t linger or leave any lacing. The aroma is nice. Some bourbon, but not overpowering. Hints of vanilla and chocolate. Some caramel also. More of a medium bodied beer. The taste is good. Chocolate and caramel malts. Hints of the vanilla and just a touch of the bourbon. Hints of dark fruits also. Very little sweetness to it. Tasty. Nothing really special about it, but it is still good.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
500 ml bottle poured a hazy reddish amber with a small lasting amber head. Aromas of bourbon, oak, vanilla, carmel, toffee, dried fruit and light molasses. Palate was medium bodied and smooith. Flavors of carmel, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, light dried fruit and light oak with a smooth lingering bourbon finish.

Bottle. Pours a deep brown, with little head or retention. Nose is maltier than anything else, hints of bourbon and some vanilla. Thin mouth, malty overall, again... a hint (and I do mean a hint) of bourbon. Palate is flat otherwise. Look, I have no problem with wax on my bottle, but at least make it worth the effort.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Damn you wax top, I felt like I was carving wood to get into it. Pours deep amber brown with a small white head. Aroma is, well bourbon and lots of it, caramel and vanilla notes as well, a bit oaky. Flavor has some dark fruits along with the standard bourbon notes of vanilla and coconut. Finishes mild and quick with lingering coconut and caramel. Medium body. I shouldnt like it much since it loses all dopplebock character but as a bourbon fan Ill give it a little extra.

2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Poured from a 500ml bottle, fuck the plastic/wax that cannot be removed. Bourbon rich, fruity, coconut, super thin, slight dark stone fruit character. Not a beer I would seek out.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: DEC 20, 2012 The was can be a bit difficult however cutting around the edge deep into it like a bottle of wine does help a lot. Get past this without frustration and there is a nice beer overall. Has a nice dark ruby red color with just over a finger head. Aroma is balanced with sweetness coming out first followed by just a hint of the barrel. Taste follows the nose with some sweetness and maltiness with very little IBUs noted. Mouthfeel is maybe on the medium side which I appreciate as it goes well with the style of a doppelbock. Overall, as a beer it is very solid but as a doppelbock I feel it is great with the added tweak of the barrel, which is not too heavy. Solid beer from such a small brewery/pub.

Really excited to have received this in a trade. Enjoyed at fridge temperature in a snifter. Thanks a lot to my awesome trading partner. This beer was sealed with wax that took about 20 minutes to take off. I doubt that the brewer intended this Doppelbock to be cellared so what’s the point in waxing it?
A - Raisin brown but against the light, burnt dark brown. No head but a fine line of carbonation with some alright lacing.
S - Vanilla, cherries, oak and brown sugar dominate the nose.
T - Very sweet up front, hint of booziness but no ABV to back up that booziness that comes from the bourbon. Vanilla, maple syrup, candy corns and a healthy wheat backbone.
M - Medium body, light carbonation.
O - Identity crisis in a bottle. Who puts a Doppelbock in Bourbon? These guys I guess. all of the nice booziness you’d expect with nothing much to follow it up with.

Shared with dad at pre-Packers tailgate! Murky brown pour. Faint bourbon, caramel and toasted malt. Flavor is caramel malt, brown sugar, a hint of roasted malt, and faint bourbon/oak/vanilla. Somewhat thin. Entirely drinkable, but a bit mild for my tastes. Would maybe get again if it were cheaper.

Black brown pour aromas of malts and slight tinge of whiskey. Somewhat dry and sweet flavor. Hints of bourbon in the background. Pretty tasty beer, I like the pint size bottle.
