Draft. Poured black color with an average brown frothy head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted chocolate malt and bourbon wood aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy dark chocloate bourbon sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate to long duration.

Bottle @ Armin’s apartment. Thanks Armin! Pours a black appearance with a brown head. A bit twangy, light vinegar, metallic, chocolate, coffee aroma. Strong vanilla, a bit fruity, strong roasted malty, coffee, slightly twangy flavor. Flavor is better than the aroma but still not that great. Barrel isn’t that forward. Ok.

RBWG14 Trip Rating #170. Bottle shared at the Downtown Inn Saturday PM Bottle Share. Pours a dark brown color with a thin creamy head. Good head retention. Aroma of nuts, roasted malts, herbal hops, very faint barrel character. Taste is whiskey, brown malt, roasted malts, wood, herbal hops. Medium bodied, lingering bitterness.

Many thanks to David for picking up the growler! Poured a ruby-tinted deep brown with a short cap of medium beige head. The aroma picked up lots of sweet bourbon, dark chocolates, and a touch of coffee.. quite roasty overall.. sweet and enticing. The flavor found deep-roasted dark chocolate and espresso along with charred oak.. espresso bitterness and sweet bourbon accents kiss the edges.. lots more chocolate, toasty oak, and bourbon on the finish.. tasty! About medium-bodied on the palate, grainy, and very roasty.. well-balanced. This was a great example of integrating bourbon barrels with a less-than-imperial stout.

VEry light flavors in a bourbon aged stout. Some fruitiness, light bourbon, not a huge amount of coffee.

Bottle:   Dark, soft stout.   Bourbon barrel aging is minor.   A little graham cracker and faint woodiness on the tongue.   Light, almost more of a Porter or even a strong Brown Ale.   Faint coffee and dark chocolate, and I mean faint.   Also the Bourbon is nearly non-existant, woodiness is not really there.   After having several Bourbon aged beers tonight, this one was just weaksauce.

Bottle at RBWG 2014, thanks! Pours a dark brown with a grayish brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has light chocolate notes with earthy dark grains and a hint of bourbon. Flavor has chocolate throughout with dark grains and a touch of bourbon in the finish.

Pour out of 500 mL bottle, dark black pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of dark fruit, slight tangy, bready notes, hints of earth, grass, slight vinous notes, touch of chocolate. Taste is better, some slight tang into creamy dark chocolate, roast, hints of earth, slight oak, finishing slightly bitter, dry.

Bottle. Very dark pour with a huge fluffy head. Lots of dark chocolate in this. Medium palate. Mild bourbon. Decent.

On draught at the brewpub in Green Bay, Wisconsin as "Hinterland Bourbon Barrel Stout." Pours an opaque dark brown brew with a creamy tan head that quickly dissolves to a film with some spotty lacing. Aroma of tasted dark malt, dark chocolate with some coffee, licorice and a touch of vanilla. Taste is where I detected some of the bourbon barrel aging but very lightly. Character is full bodied, very light carbonation with a dark chocolate flavor. Finish is smooth, creamy with some dark chocolate and bourbon flavors. A decent sipping brew.
