CaptainCougar (4687), Rockville, Maryland, USA Nov 18, 2007 On tap at the 2007 GTMW: Pours an opaque black with a full-lacing, frothy dense nitro light tan head. Mild aroma of sweet dark chocolate and coffee with some toasty caramel malty notes. Body starts with a somewhat thin earthy sweet dark caramel and chocolate maltiness with great espresso mocha balance toward a bittersweet roasty dark finish. A nice coffee stout. JPDIPSO (4344), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA Jul 13, 2005 Nearly opaque with a glint of chestnut at the edges. Tall nitro head. My kind of stout aroma. Roasted malts and mild coffee. Just a touch of dark chocolate. Smooth and creamy on the palate. Roasted malt, light coffee and a backdrop of blackberries. This is one where the coffee does not dominate, but contributes to the flavor! Ughsmash (3148), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Jan 24, 2007 On tap as "Hinterland Luna Stout". Poured a rich, deep black with a velvety 3/4" cap of beige head... thick and coating lacing. Aroma was masked by the nitro treatment, but was still nice... coffee and fluffy roasted dark malt sweetness for the most part. Very tasty in the flavor department with creamy coffee, some coffee bitterness, burnt baker’s chocolate, and faint fresh oak toward the back... well-balanced. Creamy and smooth from the nitro.. dry, mildly bitter coffee at the back-end. Lighter body. Enjoyed this one. Skyview (3060), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Sep 9, 2007 On draught at the brewpub in Green Bay, Wisconsin as "Hinterland Luna Stout." Pours an opaque dark brown brew with a creamy tan head that has good retention and excellent lacing. Aroma of mostly dark roasted coffee with some black malt and dark chocolate. Taste is full bodied, some piney hops and a dark roasted coffee flavor. Finish is like a cool Kahlua with a dark toasted bready malt added. notalush (2128), Rawn-kawn-kohma, New York, USA Jun 23, 2008 Nitro pour - huge, lasting nitro head - a really potent combination of coffee and roasted malt in the aroma - very smooth and creamy mouthfeel - strong roast and bitter tobacco leaf - it’s hard to tell how much of the roasty flavor is from the coffee, and how much is from roasted malt (very well-integrated flavors) - nice, full mouthfeel, despite the light, quaffable nature of the style (I think this is a dry stout) - a great coffee stout.
