Drinkable. The maple is really mild, which is good. When someone does maple so that you can taste it, it’s either too sweet or too strong. As a subtle influence, it works much better. Still, all of the flavors are muted here, so it is a reasonably malty drink but not memorable.

Bottle: The aroma consists of caramel, molasses, light chocolate, and a hint of vegetal notes and some nuttiness. It pours a somewhat transparent brown with some orange highlights and a small beige head with some spotty lacing. The flavor starts with a chocolate and caramel tootsie roll-ish flavors. The finish has some mild nuttiness. It’s light-medium bodied with mild carbonation.

Poured into a snifter. 2.5 A: Black color. About two fingers of frothy beige head. Retention is poor and no lacing is left. 3.5 S: Super smoky with a deep supple roastiness. There is some maple syrup, but I was expecting more. Grainy malts. Not much else going on here. 3.5 T: Grainy malts with a dry roastiness. A touch of smoke, toastiness, and a light chocolate. Maple syrup is very hard to detect and without "maple" in the name of this beer, there would be no way of knowing it is there. This should be labeled a schwarzbier since that’s what it tastes like. 2.5 M: Lighter medium body. A bit too much carbonation, which is quite biting. Lacking creaminess. 3.0 D: Not bad, but I’m not impressed and I’m a bit disappointed given the very low maple contribution. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 04-01-2012 05:44:57

Dark Brown with a soapy brown head. The smell is sweet maple, caramel, yeasts and burnt malts. The flavor is sadly just burnt malts, yeasts, barley with just a small hint of maple syrup. Very disappointing beer in general

Poured from 16oz bottle - Folks, I had no choice but to give this an excellent rating because the aroma and beautiful appearance left me no choice! These two aspects catapulted this beer into the high 3’s. Sure, I enjoyed its delicious sweet nectar, but I’ve never seen a bock glowing such an iridescent deep red. Perfect carbonation and slickness. Quite enjoyed this one.

Brownish almost burgedy with ruby.Flat looking pour with no head. Sweet grainy malt in aroma light vanilla carmel but all very mild. Kinda seems light bodied but smooth a bit watery with mild dark malts mild carmel,a bit of maple some citrus towards the end, easy to drink hard to distinguish, nothing i would get again soon.

1pint bottle from Armanetti’s. Pours a rich, deep brown colored body with a reddish hue and a thin, creamy, light brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a moderate lacing. Aroma is malty sweet molasses, maple, and caramel with a nice chocolate and a light roast. Flavor is more grainy and roasty throughout and feels a bit watery at points. Still has a molasses, maple, and caramel sweetness with a touch of chocolate towards the end. Finishes slightly sweet and sticky with a slightly dry, light earthy and roasty bitterness before leaving a fairly lengthy aftertaste. Medium body and a light carbonation. Overall, not a bad beer, but I was hoping for a little more. Malty sweet with some grainy roasts and earth.

Pours a very dark brown color that shows a ruby hue when held up to the light. The head is small and tight and leaves a very little lacing on the glass.

The aroma is nice enough with some molasses, chocolate, and very light woody and nutty notes.

The flavor is a little bit tart when cold but I don’t know if that’s not more of a sensation than a flavor (and I don’t know if that makes sense), but either way it seemed tart at first but after letting it sit in the glass a few minutes it doesn’t seem very tart at all. Anyway the beer is woody with mild maple notes in the background, those looking for maple syrup beer need not seek this one out. I for one am thankful that it’s not overly maple-y and that the maple is as subdued (but as delicious) as it is. The beer is not particularly sweet and has a bit of over roasty character (almost to the point of charred or ashy), it’s not overwhelming but it’s not a particularly pleasant flavor either. The beer has some red apple fruitiness and a mild spicy hop presence.

The beer is full bodied without being overly viscous.

Although this maple bock has an intruiging aroma, it kind of falls flat on its inititial taste. The palate is a kind of strange combination of cinnamon and smokey wilderness. The beer is slightly flat for my taste, but its passable. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

16 oz. bottle poured to a czech-pils glass with a clear, mahogany/brown, ruby highlighted color, with off white/light tan bubbles & cream head foam that diminished rather quickly to a ring & film, and left spots, streaks, and some clingy lacing on the glass. The aroma was moderately grainy, toasty, light woodiness, some caramel sweetness, and only a subtle hint of maple. The flavor wasn’t nearly as favorable, with a medium hop bitterness that didn’t seem to meld cleanly with the malt. The body was less than medium, and low carbonation contributed to a texture that came off a little watery. The bitterness lingered sharply into the finish, and any pleasant caramel or maple sweetness that was noticed in the nose, was almost nonexistent in the flavor. I had inquired often as to when this product would hit the Chicago market. I was hoping for better, and sadly found it hard to finish. Maybe a badly handled batch?
