Bottle. Pours dark for a pale ale; a deep amber with not much of a head. Aromas of bready caramel malt. Taste is light without a lot of hops. Although it is pretty smooth to drink, this is an English style pale ale and not "hoppy" enough for me.

1pint bottle from Armanetti’s. Pours a lightly hazed, orange-gold colored body with a thin, creamy, off-white head that dissipates slowly and leaves a moderate lacing throughout. Aroma is sweeter, wet grains and floral hops. Some caramel, bread, and lemony oranges. Flavor is similar, but better balanced with the hops. Slightly sweet, wet, grainy, pale malts with some caramel and plenty of floral hops. Lemony oranges in the middle with bready malts as an earthy bitterness comes in alongside the floral citruses. Finishes bready and slightly sweet, but moderately bitter with plenty of florals. Mostly dry with a lengthy aftertaste following a medium body and a moderate carbonation. Overall, a decent pale ale. Lots of florals and bready pale malts with a moderate bitterness to balance the flavor. Nothing special, but not bad.

Pours a bright orange color with a huge rocky white head that leaves a lot of lace on the glass.

The aroma has some light citrus, some toasty malt, some dusty malt character and some light sweat. The dust and sweat subside about halfway through the pint and leave the beer smelling very rosy. I don’t know if I’d call the initial aroma awful, but it’s not pleasant... eventually the unpleasant aspects of it fade away.

The flavor is spicy and florally hoppy. Generally this is a pretty hop forward beer that is lightly balanced with some very mildly toasty malt. The beer is very crisp and very lightly fruity. The beer for all it’s hop flavor has about a medium level of bitterness but what’s there is just right to fit the overall flavor of the beer. This is just a straightforward, perfectly tasty hoppy pale ale.

The sort of medium level of carbonation is just right a little prickly like an APA but low enough to carry the beer nicely across the palate.

It’s a pity this didn’t smell better because flavor-wise it’s just about exactly what I’ve been looking for... I’ll be buying more of this I’m sure, hopefully another bottle will smell better so I can adjust the score accordingly.

Sample at Ale Wine & Spirits in Powell on 02/23/2012. This brew pours a clear pale orange color with a medium thin off-white head that evaporates quickly. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of hops and grainy malt. Medium body with flavors of earthy hops, malt and a bit of citrus. The finish is mildly bitter with a short hoppy aftertaste. Decent overall.

1 pint bottle. Yellow orange color with visible sediment suspended in the body, nice thin off-white head, some lace. Visible particles. Nice good hop profile. Lighter and crisp carbonation, very drinkable. Some light bitter taste. Good pale ale. Between this and the Luna coffee stout, I’ve got a pretty good impression of Hinterland so far. The 1 pint bottle size is something that I can appreciate.

Bottle. Poured clear copper color with an average frothy off-white head that was was lasting with good lacing. Moderate floral hop and grain aroma. Medium body with a sticky texture and soft carbonation. Medium sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met.

Bread, biscuit malts and a hint of hops in aroma. The flavor is malts and caramel, along with a hoppy, bitter finish. Very straightforward ale, much like the rest of this brewery’s line, solid ale.

Sampled from the tap at the Milwaukee brewpub. Pours a near clear gold with a near white head that dissipates to the edges and laces slightly. Aroma has notes of earthy citrus with a bit of light grain and hay. Flavor starts with musty citrus and light fruit with earthy grains and hay in the finish.
