165 Hinterland Vienna Style Oktoberfest Ar - 4 Ap - 4 Fl Ė 5 P - 4 O - 9 Rate Ė 2.4 Amber to bronze in color. Taller ecru head. Rats, Iím catching some veggies in my aroma. Much like the scent that used to come from the cannery across broadway. Underneath there are some weedy and herbal hops. Very smooth feel that is lightly oily. Mild vegetable flavor noticeable in the first sip. Some hints of toasted malt try to sneak in. Fresh cut weeds and some rosemary in the background. I could cook with this, but Iím not really enjoying it. I can tell there should be something better here. This bottle did seem to have a significant amount of ullage. Perhaps another bottle sample will be in order, I check to look at some of the other bottles. 6/10 Iíll need to give this another shot this fall.

This is a reasonably tasty oktoberfest. Itís a bit sweet and malty, nothing all that special. Itís fairly drinkable for what itís worth.

The color is an ok orange, and itís aroma is unfortunately better than the beer itself, for a second there is a nice malt flavor, but that is overtaken by a sweetness followed by a slight hops bitterness.

Clear, honey gold, OK tap handle. Distinct, tangy fruit aroma, canít put my finger on which one. Lightly sweet, no bitterness, lightly tangy and cereal. Thin and a bit underwhelming. On tap, Brass Tap, Tallahassee.

A: Pours a nice amber-brown, with a good light head. Left a fair amount of lacing down the glass. S: Floral notes. The last thing I personally want out of a marzen. Beneath those, toast and yeast, which I would expect. T: Floral notes confirmed - thereís definitely some amount of resiny-flowery hops in this alleged marzen. The bready malt one expects as the base for this style is present, but for me, buried beneath the perfume. M: Creamy, smooth, and full - Hinterland nailed the mouthfeel for this one. O: I was disappointed to find an appreciable amount of hopping done to a marzen, hence the lower score. I will not repeat this one.

"Very nice," said Hank as he set down the bottle after his first sip of the Hinterland Oktoberfest beer. The bartender looked relieved. Each night it was his task to find a brand new beer for Hank. Hank, a round man in his late 60ís, would sit at the end of the bar, smile and ask the same tired question, "have anything I might like?" The bar tender, less amused by the whole ritual, took it upon himself to find the precisely perfect drink for the hour, for the season, and he even often speculated Hankís mood. That last part was easy as Hank was always in a good mood. He had the same grin every night. A grin that made most others grin too. But, the bar tender, a far too serious individual, tendered to harden his face in the presence of the older gentlemen. He did not like funny business. He didnít like games. He liked preparing drinks and serving beer. It was a strange dance perfected by time. Even though there was no chance that they could fail, the two maintained their odd interaction with the diligence of a personal computer. In truth there had never been a beer Hank had not approved of. And, certainly, if the man behind the bar had served Hank something thoughtless and domestic Hank would have smiled all the same. But, something was casted. When Hank finishes his beer he waits for the bartender. The bartender, usually restocking or cleaning glassware, or something generally productive, stops what he is doing to ask, "what else will you be having tonight, sir?" Hank, perfect in the motions, picks up his glass and studies it some. Perhaps he is really thinking about a second beer? No, definitely not: "nothing else for me tonight, thanks though." and with that the bill is brought out and the performance comes to a close.

Bottle - Pours clear brown with a thin filmy off-white head. Nose is caramel, bread--pretty sweet, with a bit of sharpness. Taste is a little milky, very bready, dry--a little bitter. Tastes old. Thin and well-carbonated.

Half liter bottle - nose is caramel and yard weeds. Alsmost crisp. Hoppier than I expect from the style. Something akin to pepper in the finish. Interesting.
