16 oz bottle from Binny’s downtown Chicago. smooth caramel lager appearance and aroma with a hint of european hops - not so "highly hopped" as the description but nicely balanced. more of a typical dunkel/vienna than an octoberfest beer, but it’s quite appropriate for the season. medium-to-full body and balanced with a nice smooth finish. very enjoyable.

Pours a clear copper with thin white head. Aroma is mostly malty with some caramel notes coming through as well as some spice. Taste is malty up front with more caramel and roasty notes. A bit of hoppyness comes through on the end with a slightly bitter finish. Good mouthfeel. Overall an enjoyable, sessionable Marzen.

Nice beer, good all around, already rated, somehow lost the rating. had a rating, so summed up. Nice oct beer. Nice fall flavors, sweet malty bready notes More crisp and hoppy. still with some nice malty notes. The balance is there and it is a comfortable fall beer. Nice

The pour is a reasonably heady golden copper. The aroma is slightly malted but more like perfume than anything else. It did not make me think of an Oktoberfest. The body is thin to medium. The taste had an odd yeasty, malty flavor that I could not quite define.

UPDATED: SEP 12, 2011 Bottle. Pours an orange copper with a small fine frothy white head. Aroma is fresh and floral, some light bread, slight malt sourness, well balanced, excellent. Flavor follows, medium sweetness, floral hops, light bread and sour dough, an excellent drinker, very well balanced and fresh, nice hop presence. Medium bodied, smaller fine sizzling carbonation, easy to drink and very tasty.

Caramel, citrus, and bready aroma. Golden-copper with off-white head. Malt sweet caramel front and balancing hop bitter finish. Full bodied, with a medium bitter finish.

500ml bottle. Orange-tan with some slight chill haze. Thin, patchy, oily head. Brewhouse aroma, a little sugary and sweet. Ouch. Lemony, way off for the style. I am drinking this in August, a year behind..it has fallen apart I hope. Thin and watery, with some gross medicinal hop leftover flavor. I suppose it’s not off, and the bitterness is just the effect of the "highly hopped" action. Almost an APA Vienna. Odd, but not so bad.

Thanks to BeerFMAndy for sending this brew out my way. Served in a pilsner glass. Pours a cloudy orange color with a single-finger head to start out with. The head is quite bubbly and not terribly dense. Some large bubbles of head stick to the sides of the glass. Nose is good with some nice earthy hop notes. There is a good dose of bready malt as well as some light caramel notes. The taste brings a pretty nice caramel character along with some slightly-toasted bread and a bit of bread crust. There is a slight earth presence in the taste as well, though not as much as there was in the nose. The bread continues to come through into the finish, which is slightly dry and pretty nice overall. Good light-to-medium body with nice carbonation. Overall, this is a nice oktoberfest that I’m glad i got to try. It sticks within the style fairly well but adds a bit of an American twist with more hops than most traditional German versions, though it’s not overly hoppy. 551 ml brown bottle. It pours a clear orange, the lacing is a bit dirty looking. The smell is slightly toasty with a hint of fruitiness. There is some grain and a pinch of herbal hops as well. The flavor is pretty solid, it has more of a hop presence than most. There is also the typical oktoberfest flavor going on, some slight toasty nuttiness and a hint of fruit. Hazy amber with a thin tan topper and a ring of lace. Aroma of heavy caramel, toasted malts, grains and earthy hops. Taste is very sweet with caramel and fruit, light grains, nuts and some earthy hops. Body is lowly carbonated and the finish has a mild non-lasting bitterness.
