4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Originally reviewed: 10/17/10. Bottle split with my wife. Poured my allotment into a giant mug. Pours a slightly hazy dark amber/orange with a thick, foamy, white head on top. Retained fair enough; left no lace behind. Scents of grains, sweet caramel, brown sugar.
Great mellow smoothness in the body. Perfect heft for this style. Superb balance in flavor, as the sweetness comes forward, but not cloyingly. Mild bitterness with just the right amount of hop presence. Finish was bready and warming. Absolute splendid Festbier. My favorite of the year, and maybe my favorite O’fest over all. Kickin’ good beer.

551 ml brown bottle.
It pours a clear orange, the lacing is a bit dirty looking.
The smell is slightly toasty with a hint of fruitiness. There is some grain and a pinch of herbal hops as well.
The flavor is pretty solid, it has more of a hop presence than most. There is also the typical oktoberfest flavor going on, some slight toasty nuttiness and a hint of fruit.

Pale copper with a firm tan head. Aroma has caramel malts, toasted malt, a bit earthy, and a light spice. Medium-full bodied with a creamy feel. Flavor is full of sweet and toasted malts, a bit of biscuit, earth, a touch of chocolate, and a bit of zesty spice. A really nice lager.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
"Very nice," said Hank as he set down the bottle after his first sip of the Hinterland Oktoberfest beer. The bartender looked relieved. Each night it was his task to find a brand new beer for Hank. Hank, a round man in his late 60’s, would sit at the end of the bar, smile and ask the same tired question, "have anything I might like?" The bar tender, less amused by the whole ritual, took it upon himself to find the precisely perfect drink for the hour, for the season, and he even often speculated Hank’s mood. That last part was easy as Hank was always in a good mood. He had the same grin every night. A grin that made most others grin too. But, the bar tender, a far too serious individual, tendered to harden his face in the presence of the older gentlemen. He did not like funny business. He didn’t like games. He liked preparing drinks and serving beer.
It was a strange dance perfected by time. Even though there was no chance that they could fail, the two maintained their odd interaction with the diligence of a personal computer. In truth there had never been a beer Hank had not approved of. And, certainly, if the man behind the bar had served Hank something thoughtless and domestic Hank would have smiled all the same. But, something was casted.
When Hank finishes his beer he waits for the bartender. The bartender, usually restocking or cleaning glassware, or something generally productive, stops what he is doing to ask, "what else will you be having tonight, sir?" Hank, perfect in the motions, picks up his glass and studies it some. Perhaps he is really thinking about a second beer? No, definitely not:
"nothing else for me tonight, thanks though."
and with that the bill is brought out and the performance comes to a close.

16 ounce bottle. Served in a mug, the beer pours a clear orange/amber color with an inch off-white head that sticked around for a while. There’s also a good amount of lacing. Aroma is caramel malt, light grassy hops and a bit of fruit. It tastes like caramel and bready/grainy malt, green hops and some nuts. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s a bit creamy with moderate carbonation. It’s also smooth and easy to drink. I’d buy it again, it’s a good beer. $9.99 a 4-pack.

Enjoyed at the Best of Milwaukee Beer Dinner last night at Roots in Milwaukee. Pours and orange-brown with a scattered white head. Smells of damp limestone. Taste is walnuts on the front with light hops and wheat on the finish. Finish is cream with some dry hops.

On draught at the brewpub in downtown Green Bay, Wisconsin location. Pours a clear light copper amber brew with an average off-white head that slowly dissipates and leaves behind some excellent lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, citrus zest, a touch of toffee and some earthy herbs. Taste has a nice balance of caramel malt and citrus zest flavors that makes this a vienna style more than the traditional malty copartner. Finish is smooth with a slight citrus and piney hop aftertaste that quickly disappears and leaves behind a mild bitter aftertaste.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bready, but more bold solid malting ,has a slight crystal malt aspect to it,almost a honeyed tea aspect to it,head is very light not much going on in the way of carbonation, taste is a solld malt flavor, the kind that only well done Oktoberfest’s can capture. I love that sweet toast,no hop aspect of this style, and Hinterland has captured all the best facets of it.Looks like it might be flat, but it isnt at all,one of those brews you can be content to suck on your tongue for a while after each swallow, hope that doesnt sound wierd

This was poured from tap into a pint glass. Pours dark orange color with a nice and foamy head.
There is very nice balance to the aromas of grains, amber notes, crackers and some bits of navel oranges as well.
medium bodied with a good smooth feel though it is slightly lacking on the mid. Balanced with straightforward flavors of grains, amber notes and some navel oranges.
I enjoyed this. A quality marzen that hit the spots I was looking for.
