3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a clear and very dark amber with a minimal beige head. The aroma tends to lean towards grapefruit and pine that is typical for your IPA. Adding to this are caramel, bourbon, oak, and mild vanilla, all while being quite sweet. The taste is sweet with less bitterness than I was expecting. I get milder pine and grapefruit up front. Underneath there is caramel and apple. Bourbon is a presence throughout, which lingers for a fairly heavy aftertaste. Medium bodied, thick in texture, average in carbonation. This one is alright. For a style that I enjoy, something about this one doesnít sit right with me. Maybe because it is very sweet, maybe the standard IPA characteristics are replace by the flavor of alcohol. In any way, I enjoy others from this style more.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Tallahassee, Fl. - New Leaf Market - 12 oz bottle. Pours a dark copper with a slight off-white head. Aroma has some overdone too-much crystal malt home brew funkiness, a touch of house brand bourbon. Flavor is overly sweet for a Double IPA - some maple syrup sweetness, some bourbon notes, some brown sugar, just a touch of citrus bitter. More like a barleywine in my humble opinion. Definitely save for the winter.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aroma is a bit faint. Some bourbon with a caramel sweetness and some hops beneath. Flavor is bourbon mixed with some citrus hops. Slightly undercarbonated. Woodiness/oaky comes through from the bourbon barrel. Not overtly bourbony which is good. I enjoyed this. Pretty good attempt.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pour is dark copper color with a bubbly tan head. Nose is strong bourbon and wood, notes of vanilla, a fair bit of rich malt presence, chocolate and caramel. Hops are faint, mostly add citrus behind the strong bourbon and malt. Taste is same, lots of bourbon but actually not quite as dominant. Rich malts, quite a lot of them, chocolaty and sticky caramel. Hops are even more faint, they add a hint of citrus to balance in back. Mostly fleshy orange. Full bodied, chewy, moderate carbonation for being in the barrel so long. More like a hopped up barley wine, blending styles a bit. Not bad, a bit sugary.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Standard long neck. Great label. Foggy tea - colored brew with a small khaki head. Very malty aroma with caramel, wood, dark sugars. Woody and a little boozy up front. Some peat and leather. Vanilla. Acidic, not too sweet. This is barleywine. Heavyish body. Warming. Finishes out a little syrupy with peppery hops and wood. New Leaf Market.

Tap. Pours hazy red amber, medium creamy beige head, nice lacing. Aroma is rich bourbon, vanilla, toffee. Flavor follows, full sweet, light bitter, rich, bourbon, oak, vanilla, dark sugars. Full body, creamy, lingering bitterness. Nice, but this is a barley wine...

On tap at a summer street fair in Chicago. Aromatic, delicious, full-bodied and bitter, definitely a beer to sip instead of quaff

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Brought back to Belgium from Green Bay, WI. Had a few Hinterland beers at Abbey bar in De Pere, but this is the best one Iíve tried. Probably the darkest IPA or IIPA Iíve tried short of a black IPA - it pours a dark ruby, almost brown. Great hop flavor and aroma. You can feel the heat, but itís appropriate for the strength - I think the time in the barrels helped mellow it. Like this a lot.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Poured this a bit on the cold side. Modest head, some lace. Clear dark amber color. Hops, Caramel, hint of skunk. Plus oak and bourbon come out in the flavor. More bitter than sweet in the palate. Decent brew.
