3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Nearing the end of this year’s batch at Green Bay according to Joe K., while sampled at the upstairs tasting lounge bar, displaying a brownish copper color, with a creamy, off white head, and wavey cling to the lacing. The aroma was some malt sweetness, resin, noticeable bourbony alcohol, and a touch of dark fruit. The flavor added to these notes medium hop bitterness, moderate carbonation, a medium+ body, decent warmth contributed by the alcohol, a bit of cask wood flavor, and a slightly dry finish. The DIPA hop bite was a little past prime, as the malt sweetness was starting to mellow the effect. Still nicely potent, with the Barleywine comparison not too far off.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at Owen & Engine. Pours a clear amber with a light brown head that dissipates to the edges and laces slightly. Aroma has a note of grapefruit and pine with a decent amount of vanilla and sweet grain. Flavor has some oaky vanilla up front with a good amount of grapefruit coming out.

Love this beer. The malt and fire of the bourbon mesh so very well with the hoppy goodness of the IPA. A unique beer that leaves the tongue confused.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft at Old Fashioned. Deep brown-red color. Oily head. Some hops in the aroma, but seem covered up in thick malt. Bourbon really takes over. Very malty. Solid hop backbone, with this is closer to Barleywine than IIPA. Lots of fruity caramel tones. A little underwhelming flavorwise, while overwhelming in body. Begins to finish scotchy and smoky, a little fig. OK, but not that impressive overall.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sampled at the Milwaukee brewpub in January 2011 labeled as Whiteout Imperial IPA. Clear ruby with a thin wispy head. Vibrant nose full of red fruit and bourbon. A definitive aged note from the oak and. Bourbon. Very much like cotton candy and sherry. More like a barleywine in flavor. Alcohol spice red fruit flavors juicy fruit with that oak and bourbon. Dry alcohol finish. 9/4/8/4/15

Was a bit thin, i got the last few ounces before the barrel kicked. It is big and bourbony with a surprising bitterness.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
On tap at the Sugar Maple. In my opinion, this beer is a mess of an IPA. Deep red-brown. Nose is bourbon...that’s it. No hops coming through. Mostly bourbon flavor with some malt coming through. Finish is...bourbon. Not a very good match. Lent itself much better to their scotch ale which is excellent. Not to say this beer didn’t taste good, but lacking the essential qualities of the style. The bourbon barreling should lend a new aspect to the style, not dominate it. Rating to reflect this.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Romans and my last beer of 2010. Ruby red with a medium foamy tan head and a ring of lace around the glass. Aroma if bourbon, oak, vanilla, caramel and light floral hops. Taste is very oaky right out the gate with vanilla, citrus, bourbon, alcohol and caramel as well. Pretty smooth with a moderate bitter finish. Not overly boozy and not as hoppy as I anticipated but overall pretty solid.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at Hinterland in Milwaukee. This was a definately more of a barleywine than an IPA, as the bartender was very quick to point out. The aroma was very bourbon. Taste was malty with hints of bourbon and vanilla. I wam tempted to go back and get a growler of this stuff.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On Tap at Fox Cities Brewfest. Pour was deep golden with a very complex and inviting aroma of oak, bourbon, sweet toasted malts, and a nice amount of earthy hops. Flavor was a bit in the other direction with much of the dominant flavor derived from the sweet malt, not the hops. This tasted more like a barley wine for the hops must have lost much of their bitterness with age, but overall, this was a superb beer.
