Dark bronze color. Malt and bourbon on the nose. Intense hops cut by soft wood, nuances of nut and caramel sweetness. Aged 20 months in bourbon barrels.

Sample at Daily Growler. The beer is a hazy dark amber/copper color with a medium off-white head that recedes steadily to an outer ring. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, bourbon and caramel. Full-bodied with flavors of caramel malt, oaky bourbon and fruit. The finish is oaky with a caramel and bourbon aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

UPDATED: AUG 17, 2014 Was a bit thin, i got the last few ounces before the barrel kicked. It is big and bourbony with a surprising bitterness. Edit: Had it on draft at the source. It is exaclty what I stated above but this version was a bit less boozy and more hop forward. It is also extremely dark for an ipa.

On tap at Dutchs. Mostly clear dark red color, kind of brown from a distance. Thin khaki head. Leaves a few dots of lace. Bigger body. Lighter, reasonably smooth, kind of crisp carbonation. Lightly drying finish. Good bigger toasty malt, some dark fruit, oak, vanilla, light spiciness. Bigger earthy hop aroma, with a satisfying moderate to bigger bitterness. Lighter sweet taste. Satisfying level of alcohol warmth. A pretty well-rounded, satisfyingly malty and complex barrel aged DIPA. Better than expected! One of the better barrel-aged DIPAs Ive had, probably. The barrel aromas here work much better than in more pale examples.

On tap at Owen & Engine. Pours a clear amber with a light brown head that dissipates to the edges and laces slightly. Aroma has a note of grapefruit and pine with a decent amount of vanilla and sweet grain. Flavor has some oaky vanilla up front with a good amount of grapefruit coming out.

Bottle. Rich copper pour with a foamy white head. Rich caramel malt, grapefruit, and pine aroma. Some soft wood and bourbon. Bold rich flavor.

On tap at Hinterland Milwaukee. Poured a brilliant garnety-red with a light ring and a swirly beige head. The aroma picked up sweet, lovely bourbon and vanilla-accented caramel and grapefruit sweetness.. remarkably soft and calculating, with the barrel seamlessly-integrated with the nice underlying beer. The flavor found sweet, strong (but not oppressive) bourbon sugars, drawn caramel, and grapefruit at the base with vanilla-accented grapefruit bitterness on the edges.. tangy bourbon sugars and some orange zest emerge for the finish.. tasty! Medium-bodied with low carbonation.. a bit of a grainy oak theme.. nicely toasted. Good stuff!

Draft at Dutchs. Pours a deep reddish amber copper color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor have caramel, bourbon, vanilla, oxidized hops, wood, dark fruits, this is much more like a barley wine after 20 months in a barrel, but tasty. Some earthy bitterness to the finish. This is better than most of their other beers Ive had.

Tallahassee, Fl. - New Leaf Market - 12 oz bottle. Pours a dark copper with a slight off-white head. Aroma has some overdone too-much crystal malt home brew funkiness, a touch of house brand bourbon. Flavor is overly sweet for a Double IPA - some maple syrup sweetness, some bourbon notes, some brown sugar, just a touch of citrus bitter. More like a barleywine in my humble opinion. Definitely save for the winter.

On draught at the brewery/brewpub in downtown Green Bay, WI. Pours a semi-clear brownish copper/red brew with a quick dissolving off-white head that dissipates to a thin film top and no ring. Aroma of bourbon with caramel, tangerine, grapefruit and a touch of vanilla. Taste is full bodied, very little carbonation if any with very complex flavors of bourbon, grapefruit, a touch of tangerine, iced tea, vanilla and some toffee. Finish has a thick texture with a lingering bourbon and grapefruit aftertaste that is quite sweet. The bourbon comes out stonger in the finish.

dark amber to copper in color. A hint of rudy when held to the light. Moderate off-white head. Scents of an IPA with some pale to toasted malts and pine and mild citric hops. Interesting flavors to me. I wonder if the oak after time takes over the hops as I am getting more oak character than the hops that I perceived in the nose. Caramel and oak flavors preside throughout. Good, but I still think the hops are gradually losing the battle with the oak.
