Winterland is deep brown to black with amber highlights. The massive brown head deposits large sheets of lace right down to the very last sip. The dark malt and heavy dark chocolate aroma mixed with a slight juniper scent, give Winterland a sort of chocolate covered berry aroma. The rich roasted malt flavor makes it’s appearance first, followed by a dark bitter chocolate flavor. Winterland is reminiscent of a porter or stout with a surprising juniper berry finish.

A beer brewed in Green Bay is never going to taste bad. I just kind of popped this one without looking at what it was. I figured it would be a spiced winter ale but clearly it was much darker. Good dark winter session beer. I would be able to identify the juniper berry if I knew what the hell a juniper berry tasted like.

Bottle in fl. Aroma is best part. Faint chattel choco-coffee. Flavor is bad. Coffee with rusty poop. Lingers. Too bad

Tallahassee, Fl - ABC Fine Wine & Spirits - Betton - 12 oz bottle. Dark black pour, medium thick mocha colored head with a very small amount of lacing. Aroma has a bit of creosote, a touch of black coffee. Bold flavor with nice creosote and topsoil accents, a touch of bittersweet baker’s chocolate, a touch of black coffee Not picking up the advertised juniper berries. Nice slick mouthfeel. Quality porter.

Tangy, tarry, roasted, coffeeish aroma. Pitchy black brew with a creamy tan head. Initially sweet, spiced orange marmalade notes, coffee, bittersweet chocolate, a bit acidic. Mouthy, but it has some vacancy in the middle. Dark chocolate and citrus zest aftertaste. On tap, Growler County.

It poured from a bottle beautifully! Big and black with a head that is 5 inches and never ending rocky. It even bubbles all round the spot under the head. Taste is oddly bitter but I thought this was just going to be a yellow beer! My, I can’t quit talking about how good it looks. On the palate its a woody burnt thing. Perhaps a little more bitter than I care for. The head mutes a rather roasty aroma. Even tho it foams all over the place, this stuff is rather flat. Not sure where the juniper thing comes in, perhaps on the odd bitterness?

Black pour with a thin light khaki head with lots of lace. Nose is sweet and chocolaty with a little roast and caramel, and golden biscuit. Flavor is medium bodied and a bit bland, though balanced, with some sweet roasty notes, dry cocoa, and a leafy/herbal bitterness on a dry cocoa-ish finish. Gets a bit more leafy bitter the more I sip.

Draft at Dutch’s. Pours a dark brown color with a small to medium sized beige head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malts, a touch burnt, chocolate, winter spices with a splash of coffee. The body was a touch thin. OK, but not something I would seek out again.

Draft at Dutch’s, served in a pint glass. Pours a deep brown color with a finger of soft beige head. Aroma of chocolate, toast, roast, winter spices, and burnt sugar. The flavor is a very smooth version of the same. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a smooth mouthfeel. Really nice surprise.

Tap sample. Poured a clear dark brown color with an average frothy tan head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted chocolate malt aroma. Medium toasted dark sweet flavor with a medium dark sweet finish of moderate duration. Medium to abundant body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is a good beer.

Draft to taster at Dutch’s. Looks good; a fairly opaque dark brownish black with light beige lacing. Smells of dark malt, chocolate, and mild roast. Tastes like it smells with more roast and what seems to be mild oxidation. Not bad.
