Great brew for a cold winter night. Don’t be fooled by the virtually opaque black color of this porter. This beer is clean and smooth. The dark roasted malts give this beer coffee-like tones on top of a rich chocolate malt character. Moderately hopped.

It poured from a bottle beautifully! Big and black with a head that is 5 inches and never ending rocky. It even bubbles all round the spot under the head. Taste is oddly bitter but I thought this was just going to be a yellow beer! My, I can’t quit talking about how good it looks. On the palate its a woody burnt thing. Perhaps a little more bitter than I care for. The head mutes a rather roasty aroma. Even tho it foams all over the place, this stuff is rather flat. Not sure where the juniper thing comes in, perhaps on the odd bitterness?

Black pour with a thin light khaki head with lots of lace. Nose is sweet and chocolaty with a little roast and caramel, and golden biscuit. Flavor is medium bodied and a bit bland, though balanced, with some sweet roasty notes, dry cocoa, and a leafy/herbal bitterness on a dry cocoa-ish finish. Gets a bit more leafy bitter the more I sip.

Draft at Dutch’s. Pours a dark brown color with a small to medium sized beige head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malts, a touch burnt, chocolate, winter spices with a splash of coffee. The body was a touch thin. OK, but not something I would seek out again.

Draft at Dutch’s, served in a pint glass. Pours a deep brown color with a finger of soft beige head. Aroma of chocolate, toast, roast, winter spices, and burnt sugar. The flavor is a very smooth version of the same. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a smooth mouthfeel. Really nice surprise.

Tap sample. Poured a clear dark brown color with an average frothy tan head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted chocolate malt aroma. Medium toasted dark sweet flavor with a medium dark sweet finish of moderate duration. Medium to abundant body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is a good beer.

Draft to taster at Dutch’s. Looks good; a fairly opaque dark brownish black with light beige lacing. Smells of dark malt, chocolate, and mild roast. Tastes like it smells with more roast and what seems to be mild oxidation. Not bad.

On tap at Dutch’s. Black color. Pours with a bigger light brown head, that leaves plenty, thicker lace. A great looking porter. Good bigger earthy hop, nice chocolate, roast, dark chocolate, light coffee. Medium to bigger body. Smooth, lighter carbonation. Kind of a nice, chewy texture. Lightly dry finish. Very smooth and easy drinking. Moderate bitter, moderate sweet taste. Pretty damn tasty, easy-drinking porter. Very impressive. Smooth, flavorful, and complex, with a satisfying amount of hops.

This is a porter? Blah. Flavor is kinda old musty hops with a off balanced brown ale profile . Bitter, not in a good way. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Surprisingly lightweight for a porter -- perhaps the result of the juniper infusion. You catch a scent on the nose and a bit of bitterness in mid, drink, but otherwise its mostly chocolate and, oh how nice, a hint of chocolate deep into the finish. I’m not sure I could drink a lot of this, but one on tap with dinner tonight seemed just right.

Black with khaki head.Spotty lace. Aroma has some roasted/chocolate,dark berry,mellow/mild sweetness.Mild and somewhat good. Smooth chocolate bittersweet taste, with dark berry,roastiness-ashy and bitter in the finish. More hoppy than not the Juniper may get hidden with the hops-but I think Juniper compliments hops well and can be similar especially with that berry quality I often find in dark beers anyways... Slick.Light yeastiness/alcohol.Lingering roasty bitter.
