3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Smells sweet and chocolatey, has a nice tan head. Taste is mostly roasted coffee with moderate hops. Though there is an underlying hint of tart that must come from the juniper berries, though it blends un with the hops. It might be more pronounced if let to warm. Smooth and drinkable. I enjoyed it while playing skyrim, the two went well together.

This is a porter? Blah. Flavor is kinda old musty hops with a off balanced brown ale profile . Bitter, not in a good way.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Surprisingly lightweight for a porter -- perhaps the result of the juniper infusion. You catch a scent on the nose and a bit of bitterness in mid, drink, but otherwise its mostly chocolate and, oh how nice, a hint of chocolate deep into the finish. Iím not sure I could drink a lot of this, but one on tap with dinner tonight seemed just right.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Black with khaki head.Spotty lace.
Aroma has some roasted/chocolate,dark berry,mellow/mild sweetness.Mild and somewhat good.
Smooth chocolate bittersweet taste, with dark berry,roastiness-ashy and bitter in the finish. More hoppy than not the Juniper may get hidden with the hops-but I think Juniper compliments hops well and can be similar especially with that berry quality I often find in dark beers anyways... Slick.Light yeastiness/alcohol.Lingering roasty bitter.

3.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Black, with a tall, thick, dark brown head.
Aroma is powdered chocolate, herbals...
Taste is powdery, dry chocolate, with an odd herbal bittering from the juniper....like a licorice, but not quite.
Hints of black IPA-ness...

Bottle share thanks to Jared, dark cola color, minimal head. Malt and roast aroma, taste is similar, bit of sweet cocoa powder like.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pours a deep, dark, brooding and moody black, with full opaqueness. The head is frothy, thick and sticky. The aroma is rich with cardboard, musk and spice. It drinks with a rugged, rural edge, with a dirty bite all around the outsides. The juniper adds a unique but hard to discern earthy, tree-like bit to it. Downright Scandinavian, and wonderful. 3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Mild roasted aroma, with a hint of juniper. Pours an opaque black with just a ring of light brown head. Interesting blend of spice and roast, with a touch of bitterness in the finish. Light bodied, and slick mouthfeel. A nice easy drinking beer for a cold night.

Bottle. Deep oily dark looking pour with a brown head. Light roast and berry on the nose. Palate is a little thin but not bad. Nice flavor, easy drinking. Solid.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
16 oz bottle Whole Foods. Wasnít expecting this to be a porter, but, meh... Light brown cocoa-like head; very silky-looking; retains a very thin full covering and heavy lacing down the glass; opaque black; nice. More of a chocolate-based porter, the aroma is heavy on sweet chocolate, but there is decent balance from a roast/coffee note, and I get some ash in this too. Flavor chocolate, roast. Mouthfeel silky but maybe a little heavy on the carbonation; medium body; barely sticky. Nice on the visuals and palate, but the flavor is not remotely discernable from other beers.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
An opaque dark pour with a brown toasty head that disinigrates into a trace of lacing. The aroma is overwhelmingly of citrus. The taste begins sweet and bright and finishes with a strong bitter taste of hops. Winterland is a challenging brew that goes great with a meal and has much in common with a Black IPA.
