COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Great brew for a cold winter night. Don’t be fooled by the virtually opaque black color of this porter. This beer is clean and smooth. The dark roasted malts give this beer coffee-like tones on top of a rich chocolate malt character. Moderately hopped.

Rich Chocolate brownie mix malt aroma, just a hint of roastiness, flavor is intially bakers chocolate malts a little bit of bit of chocolate bitterness, the flavor becomes more bitterness emphasis as it warms, actually a very satisfying malt expression, which it was a little more warming. Pleasant chocolate bitterness left on the palate Well done porter

Originally reviewed: 2/9/11. Bottle poured into a standard conical pint glass. This is one of the darkest Porters I’ve ever poured. Utter blackness like dirty motor oil. Very viscous as well. A small mocha head tops it off. Lots of lacy webbing on the glass. The nose starts sweet with notes of creamy milk chocolate, more dairy, and finishes roasted with hints of espresso and ground coffee beans. The heavy look carries over to the feel. Moderate chew to this one. Carbonation is in the background, just bubbly enough. Hefty beer. I’m not sure exactly if I have much experience picking out juniper flavor, but this beer says that it is brewed with juniper berries. There is an almost bittersweet twang on the back end of this one, that I can only guess is juniper berry (?). Otherwise this beer is all roasted, almost to a fault. The heavy char and roasted qualities wear on me over the course, and I find the drinkability hindered. I thought there would be a bit more sweetness balancing this one out, but I find it lacking. It’s a good beer anyways. Away from the norm a tad, and there’s nothing wrong with that.
